Rooting your phone allows you to open up more settings and grants you access superuser powers. (like admin permission in vista). Android phones can be rooted, but its all different depending on the phone. I have a rooted G1 and i recommend it. With my rooted G1 I am able to turn my G1 into a WIFI hotspot for nothing extra from my carrier. If you have any questions on Rooting your phone, post here for help
