Yeah I've tried them, actually using I-Doser which they talk about in the article. It really doesn't work as well as they've tried to show. They do make you feel pretty weird, though. (I've got dozens of spare dose files if anyone wants them, lol.)

The flashlight was removed because the team with guns (which changes every round, so I can't say ct/t) could turn on their flashlight, and see the invisible peoples shadows, and so they would win every single round. On another note, n is the default key for nightvision.

You don't get uber high ping because the update is shit. You get it because the server list auto refreshes. I suppose it's to make the job of finding servers easier, but it lags the people which don't use the internet tab, and simply favorites. To fix: Just go to the internet tab, and click stop refreshing. lol. No more uber high ping! But about your fps, well, try as edo said.
