Well, this may sound crude but before opening try shaking it, if anything sounds loose that might be your problem, lol. Bad capacitors or broken lines are basically KOs because I doubt a 30 year old capacitor is compatible with the 3rd party replacement ones you can buy now, but don't take my word on that I'm no expert there.
