And there you go again. Prices will drop across BOTH brands when the gtx300s come out, because they are designed for performance. ATI stepped out ahead for once instead of waiting to undermine Nvidia prices with a cheaper yet comparable card. The 300s from the things I've read WILL blow the 5000 models out of the water in performance, it's just a question of what the price will be. If it's high, chances are prices will stick, with the exception of dx10 cards which will drop in both brands. Now if the new Nvidia cards are not only going to perform faster than their Radeon counterparts and are priced at the same level then the Radeon cards will nosedive in price immediately. It's just a wait on the sticker tag. If I knew this kind of opportunity was coming and I was looking to upgrade I would definitely bide my time. I'd call it a rant but I have no loyalty to red or green or my head shoved two miles up Radeon's rectum for that matter.

FYI, it looks like newegg is starting to phase out its DX10 cards. More and more are either deactivated, sold out, or on auto-notify.

And btw I screwed up when comparing the 4870 to the 5780 in my first post, I meant the 4870x2.

Once again, fanboy, this isn't a brand war, since you can make the EXACT same statements to the Radeon DX10 cards since they haven't started dropping in price compared to their 5000 series alternates. Nvidia will out of pride, or simply anticipation of their next DX11 series will NOT slash prices till Q1 when those cards roll out. THAT is why I keep saying wait-and-see till their ensuing price war engages, and you ultimately win. Otherwise, hold your tongue. I personally liked Radeon's 4000 pricing and that's why I went with one originally. I hate though that a 4870 puts out as much heat as a gtx 295. To be honest, I bought the 295 because it was the last upgrade I planned to make for a long time, and I was unaware there would be this large an upset in technology coming only a little over half a year later. Don't be fooled by the 5870 and the 4870, just because they have a "#870" in their name. They are only similar in name, beyond that, it's a revolutionary card with nothing in common. The 4870 and the 5770 are essentially on equal grounds except one can support 3 monitors, the other can't. So if you aren't into 3 monitor gaming, why not wait for the price crash to cash in on a cheaper DX10 card for essentially the same bang?

At the higher levels yes, I do agree a 5970 is a robust card. But the lower level 5750-70 really are inexcusable for their low performance and higher price than a 4870 for nearly the same price. Same goes for the 5800s, they're still hella expensive for their marginal performance gains. This is about DX11 cards being overpriced, not Radeon vs Nvidia. Wait for prices to lower a bit on them, that's all.

Hmm, actually I just went to a good tech site and lo and behold: The 5750-5770 are only dollars apart with a decent boost in performance. If you got the money and the flexibility, pass up the gtx 295. Go for two 260s or on the high end two 285s. Two 295s is overkill and is basically pissing away your money. I like that you picked the i7 920, 1000W is a bit high but with two gtx275s in SLI I suppose you might as well. If you want to get more speed btw don't buy a single 1TB HDD, buy two 500GBs and stripe them in a raid. And unless you really plan to OC this bitch you can live with a cheaper mobo.
