Probably because Pnos never listened to a pair of Senns or Beyers and compared them to a pair of mainstream headphones used for gaming. Steelseries, Sharkoon, Speed-Link, Plantronics, Logitech, etc.. all the gaming headsets are pathetic compared to a pair of real audition phones like the Sennheiser HD555 or the Beyerdynamic DTX910 (which are pretty low end when it comes to audition headphones but even so are a lot better than the gaming ones, oh, and they're sometimes cheaper than the gaming ones). Just go to an audio shop and try one of the demo Sennheisers and you'll see what I mean.

Yeah, don't buy them. I had the chance of listening to them at a friend and they're utterly pathetic when it comes to getting any good sound out of them. They're gimmicky and have a lot of bling bling on them, and that's about it. I'd suggest you get a pair of Sennheiser HD555 or Beyerdynamic DTX910 and get a 3rd party microphone and trust me, you will have much better sound quality.

There could be a lot of dust in the fan of your 6600gt. I had the same problem on a very old MX440 and the card eventually died because of poor cooling. Just do what Veggie says, pick up a 9800gt or a hd5750 and you won't have any problems. I suggest you try and clean your pc of dust every 6 months or so to avoid problems like this in the future.
