Just get a braided cable. It says "charging cable" but it'll work for your controller. I wouldn't recommend wireless hardware in general, but you could get a wireless adapter like @kabLerecommended if that's more your speed. Cable is faster and cheaper, though. I don't know what controller you have, but just verify it's Micro-USB before you buy a cable. There are some other ports that look like Micro-USB but aren't.

So, it sounds like it's an onboard WiFi chip unless you have some kind of dongle you're not mentioning. You said you did a hard reset. What do you mean by this? If you did a clean install of Windows, then you might need to manually download the drivers for the WiFi chip. Windows can usually automatically fetch drivers, but not always.
