To throw my two cents in with your convo w/ BW, I talked it over with one of my Christian friends to see what his take on Saturday was. (I'm Christian, but I didn't really believe the world was going to end, and I trust my friend more than some person that claims May 21 is the end) And the biggest problem is that like BW said, they pick and choose, and they will take verses so far out of the context in which they're put into the text.
