  1. GTX 580

    Got proof? Well actually, don't even bother, I'll just chalk it up as irregular charting. Why? Mostly because this type of hardware testing is so utterly shit, so inexcusibly bad, that it won't make a difference. There's not a single hardware reviewer on the planet earth that can probably give trustworthy results. Hardware needs to be tested about 100~ times if you ask me, and then average the results. That's overkill you say? What's overkill is that results can be tipped by an inch depending on the hardware you mix with it, it's also hard to accumulate accurate results when you test it once.
  2. C++ game coding

    w3schools.com is the best place for web-based development. Also gamemaker is more than just drag and drop, you can also code games as well, I have a friend who made a very nice game (Stick Online, closed right now, but it's fun).
  3. Drama?

    looks like this thread was a great accomplishment, lets do this again k guiyz?
  4. Drama?

    in the mere minute this thread had been created you all have magically made it into a golden turd. a sparking. golden. turd.
  5. Drama?

    Who else is getting sick of the drama, it's tearing us apart! :'[
  6. quiting SG

    Big Dick Paul or alternatively: Bag of Dicks I only added the alternative because I felt like i was kissing ass. or sucking bd.
  7. Second opinion

    Don't get SLI yet, just buy the mobo with 2 pci-e slots, buy one card, and if later when you need the fps boost, buy the second card. This does you a few favors -You'll save a few bucks by buying later when the price reduces -You find out that you don't need the second card, and thank Allah you didn't buy it. I dunno, looks good to me other than that. I'm tired, I'm sure potshot will have some sort of witty retort by the time I get back
  8. GTX 580

    If you have a high resolution monitor (2000x####~ or so), you would want this card. Anti-aliasing is simply the doubling/quadrupling/etc of the resolution you use, and then having it scaled back into your resolution, to make colors more vibrant, etc. Anti-aliasing is especially useful because most textures are almost the size of 800x600 pixels for a simple helmet or hat, so you can see a better picture. tl;dr: antialiasing is like setting your resolution at 1440x900 on a 800x600 screen, just so the edges dont look jagged. it looks better, but is it worth it? no probably not, i usually stick to 2x aa on games like BC2, and pump out 8x on source games. and hence why the graph did not show AA, on a 2560x1600 monitor doubling that would probably cause massive tensions on the card.
  9. C++ game coding

    One of the best ways to learn coding is to look more at a game with the code opened up and then have the developer use comments to describe what each thing does. Tutorials are pretty much the same thing, but not as visually appealing, imo.
  10. Hold space to get out of your chair, walk behind your chair and there's a computer terminal, lots of stuff to do 3arch unlock unlocks zork, dead ops arcade, and something else, i think it was the zombie map "Five"? you can also log into other people's accounts and access their mail, there's a giant backstory behind the whole game within the emails, there's also emails you need to decode, i was messing with it for about 2 hours.
  11. To the Veterans

    I always feel disdain on on Veteran's Day, for one, it's a celebration of people who survived battles where they mercilessly killed each other. On the other hand, it's not entirely their fault due to drafts. Sorry but it's true, all war is bullshit, I agree people deserve to be rewarded for their deeds towards their nations. But nationalism is fucking bullshit. So feel free to derep me for being a conscientious objector.
  12. Ethically: Inform the parents, even if it severs your fuck ties with her
  13. You'll run it fine. Your CPU is a slightly older model, but it doesn't matter. You'll run it fine as fuck but you may need to reduce some settings. If it doesn't work, you can always overclock your CPU.
  14. GTX 580

    Don't bother buying new cards if you just feel the need to pioneer new technology. The worst purchase you can make as a PC Builder is to buy hardware that makes new use of a certain feature. Like DX11. Buying first generation DX11 cards is useless because they can't even run DX11. But either way, GTX 470 is 5.79 dollars per fps, the GTX 580 is 9 dollars per fps. Heh.
  15. I use RivaTuner to modify my fan control, it's 100% all the time
  16. Sennheiser 555 is a good choice from what I hear, well most sennheisers are pretty good...if you don't mind the price tag.
  17. Do you own a soundcard? If so how many channels does it have? And what's the model number?
  18. Your GPU may be artifacting, this can be caused by more than just a faulty gpu, run HWMonitor and check temps to make sure there is enough air going through.
  19. And yet top dollar will not always guarantee the best performance you fucktwits, even SLI can cause performance degradation in games that are poorly coded, along with high maintenance in SLI, top dollar does not mean best performance, the point of the fact is building your computer is meant to be a process that will save you money, if she wants the most costing computer out there I can direct you to the nearest bestbuy. Let's not be blunt, we're all shut-in nerds who think we have a college major in Computer IT. And I think we all need to relay both sides of what a purchase can do for you, and give an unbiased opinion on it. 0-I mean, I hope none of us are recommending hardware because we get a paycheck from the manufacturer for it, right? As for jen, when building a computer you need to be willing to learn aswell, if you want SLI/CrossFire, you need to be willing to learn about how maintenance works, if you want water-cooling, you need to be able to maintain it. I'm not questioning your tech skills, but you haven't given a lot of thought (from what I've seen) on what you're about to spend your buck on. but i digress, in short: sli may look the best, but these people who test these don't run them long term, they benchmark, shelve them, and don't worry about it until the next go around. you're a consumer and it matters how hardware performs under long-term conditions. Seriously, this still proves today, you'll notice the AMD Phenom II X6 may look nice and high end with it's big price tag, but it performs shittly in benchmarks. But yeah, don't buy hardware just cause it costs a lot and looks good on the outside!
  20. I'm not so sure about the Phenom II X4, these processors were made to compete with the C2D/Q. They match up alright with i3/i5's but that's about it, the Phenom 2 X6 perform poorly as of right now, the i7 is a good choice if you can spread the cash. Personally, I'd wait until AMD unveils their new cpu, and since you're waiting on that, wait on the GPU as well, seeing how some new gpus on both sides are coming out soon, and prices on the older ones will be lower. It's up to you if you want to wait a few months and sees how it plays out.
  21. do not recommend sli'ing/crossfiring.
  22. Yes and a 9800GT is barely even MADE anymoroe, let alone cost-effective, the 9800GT varies $100 or so, while the 6850 doubles up performances on it, for about $60 more. Also why the fuck would you buy a 9800GT that's almost out of it's lifespan?
  23. it's not just about running bf2 she should probably also prepare for upcoming games that require more resources, if she wanted to run just bf2 she wouldn't even need to upgrade. but 6850 is your best bet, the 460 isn't as good.
  24. Recording Software

    It depends what you want it do, AutoGK can convert to Xvid codec and at the same time reduce quality, DVDVideoSoft converts a wide variety of shitty codecs like Apple's codecs. When I did shitty youtube videos I would just load it up into windows movie maker, and then convert it to whatever format they, .wmv? You should look around, it honestly depends what you want to use it for, I assume youtube, so just look like for something good. I'll look around. I mostly re-encode ripped dvds into the xvid codec so i dont worry about anything else.
