  3. ArmA

ArmA: Armed Assault Since I was getting messsaged like crazy asking me how the game was, I thought I would make a thread so people can post their impressions of this game. (Anyone Remember Operation Flashpoint?) Does anyone here own it? My computer literally blew up last night- So I can even play my new purchase. Main site is here. Reviews are here. And movies are here. My impression is it felt like more of a SIM than a game. Took forever to config . -Straylight

  5. I've always thought this article was particularly good in showing that you DON'T need to throw endless amounts of cash out there to get a playable System. http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/$500_gaming_pc_upgrade/ -Straylight
  6. I wonder if anyone plays MYTH anymore? Damn that was a great series
  7. I truly believe if MS had their way, we'd ditch PC gaming all together for their Xbox. Take Their Windows Live implementations for example. Most of the games that feature ‘Games for Windows Live’ program require it for online game play. That wouldn't be so bad if you could play with who you wanted to. Those people out there with Silver memberships cannot choose your opponents manually. Gears of War (for PC) is a good example. That ‘sux’. The real reason I’m worried is how much worse it is for newer titles. They ‘sux’ harder. In order to play anyone online, Kane and Lynch Dead Men requires a gold membership. That’s $50 more just to play a $60 game. Their much bragged about coop levels are only available in split screen and requires an xbox controller to be used. The fact that none of this is mentioned on the game-box itself speaks volumes to me. We’ll take your money and leave you with half assed implementations of features we touted. OK, so Dead Men screwed the pooch in a bunch of ways, that’s no secret. However, the ways in which they screwed up are significant here. You can blame the developer IO-interactive all you like, but its not like they are strangers to making video games. They made the award winning Hitman series. This screams MS interference to me. Look at the difference between the Xbox/ PC MP and the PS3 MP. The game was released on all three systems, yet you don’t have to pay to play MP on the PS3, but you do with the PC? Game browsers, Matchmaking, voice chat… I see the future of gaming here, some idiot at MS thought he would charge PC users for things they already had. If Ms has its way, more titles are going to ‘feature’ GFWL. So, no, PC gaming isn’t dead but Damnit, the maker of my operating system seems to be slowly but surely kicking it in the head to make me buy an Xbox. That ‘sux’ the most.
  8. (Playing the devils advocate here) What Red says is all true however, look at it from a Developers standpoint. They either create a game that has to scale to all kinds of hardware configurations, something that console devs do not really have to worry about. Plus, those companies concerned about piracy might go for a console simply because its easier to pirate a PC game than a console one. Modding your console vs downloading a crack after your gotten the game via bit-torrent.
  9. Looking into articles like the latest interview with Tim Sweeney, it seems more developers are voicing their anger over certain things that PC lack. Is PC gaming dead? Who's reinforcing the PC versus the console? Personally I believe MS has been very halfhearted about games in the past 2 years when it comes to the PC. It seems there are more and more and more halfassed (half-assed?) ideas that only penalize PC gamers out there. Anyone have any thoughts?
  10. Kills and Caps points, but honestly, they were just lining up to be shot.
  11. I dont usually do this considering I'm not a fan of score mongering. However there are some exceptions. Insurgency is a pretty fun game, but without teamwork you and your team will get slaughtered. You really cannot lone wolf this mod; you cant cap points, nor set up effective ambushes without teammates. This pic was taken near the end of a 7 rounds when the Insurgents started leaving en masse. I should have taken an earlier pic when the teams out of our favor, it certainly would have been more impressive. Forgive me for the pride here, but this is ridiculous considering I don't spawn camp. :roflmao:
  12. hmm... I had no idea I could start such a controversy about what system was better... I HATE the 'to be continued' endings, its just lazy writing, ANYONE can pull a to be continued out of their ass in an effort to be controversial but in the end its kind of an insult to your viewers/players. (look at the matrix trilogy). For what its worth: http://gameplanets.blogspot.com/2007/06/rainbow-six-vegas-ps3-vs-xbox-360.html As you can see in the vid, theres almost no difference between the two (despite the fanboy ravings on the page). One has more of a detailed grainy look and the other has bloom, but without the notes there on the screen you wouldn't know which is which. And in my mind, judging a game by the platform its on, and not the actual game itself makes you a fanboy STALKER.
  13. Ive been reading and you can play the entire campaign COOP, cut scenes and all. Thats pretty cool. I'm betting the MP will be neutered with the windows live crap.
  14. http://rainbowsixgame.us.ubi.com/ Anyone looking forward to this game? The first one was pretty fun on PC. The single player campaign was fantastic. Specifically, the firefight between all the cars in front of the casino was badass; much like that scene from Heat. Good stuff. Though I'm not a fan of using the "to be continued" line at the end of a game, its a pretty big copout for telling a story. (looking at YOU UBISOFT!) More weapons and more answers; Thats what I'm waiting for.... Straylight
  15. This is awesome, simply amazing. I was sent his at work and couldn't keep from laughing out loud. Quite surreal really; Subtracting Garfield changes the whole direction of the comic. The author of the page says it best: "Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolor disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against lonliness in a quiet American suburb." -From http://garfieldminusgarfield.tumblr.com/ Fantastic and sublime simultaneously...
  16. new trailer for all to see.. and a hires version for download :http://download.games.tiscali.cz/game/videosa/battlefield_heroes-trailer-hd.zip
  17. Really? I find a good single player game is hard to beat. Of course, the 2 years have had some pretty awful single player plots. Convoluted stories, terrible characters. Apparently, the message they are trying to tell us, is its hard to make a cutting edge video game AND have a decent plot. Plus, its hard to find a game that has both outstanding Single and multiplayer.
  18. Crysis

WOW thats pretty fascinating. I had no idea that even existed. Ill check it out. (you might want to start another thread for people to post their impressions) -Straylight
  19. CoD 4

AH-haha yeah, Exactly, spawn, run like hell, die, reload.... i got to the last level right before the car chase and gave up.... it was ridiculous. I'm impressed you finished it on that difficulty.
  20. Looks pretty good, But weird too. Its too well lit. Maybe I'm just used to seeing those types of creatures from barely lit hallways.
  21. CoD 4

Yes, I have to agree with Jaffa, thats really my only complaint about the game. The AI just gets ridiculously hard on the extreme difficulty levels. So much so its not really fun to play. They know where you are at all times. Not much fun. For whats its worth though. The finale to the single player campaign is fantastic. I enjoyed that a great deal. I'd kill for Co-op though, It would be pretty cool to go through the campaign with other players. -Straylight
  22. HEH, I have no idea what to make of that. It spanned so many genres. Does anyone have an idea as to what game that was from? The info for the clip just read, "clip". -Straylight
  23. Crysis

Hmm, Since we're on the topic of Crysis and the CRY ENGINE 2. I thought I'd share this... First I hope you're familiar with the Sony Bravia ad . Then look at what some enterprising guys did, in a movie called "CryEngine2 Vs. Reality" Id say under the right circumstances, the engine is hard to tell from real life . -Straylight
  24. I havent played it myself, however from the three friends i know who tried the demo, they all purchased the game a day or 2 later. Really fun. But thats second hand info. Ill try it myself and get back to you. -straylight
