So I was gonna try to seed TTT again a couple hours ago and one of my friends in the call @Tamber told me that he won't play because he can't load into the server because of all the shit it downloads and how long it takes. I thought surely he was joking until he told me an hour later that he was on 26%. Again tbh I didn't really believe him so I ran kind of an experiment where I deleted all my downloaded community server files and tried to load in, and holy fuck. I don't have the best computer or insane internet, but with ~95 mps download internet speed it took me like 40 minutes to load everything. And it finally clicked for me. No wonder our fucking CSGO servers don't get any new members. How often even during big seedings/events do we see new faces? It's because any person looking in the browser is gonna try to join, see how long it's taking, come back after 15 minutes, and see "Downloading anime_girl_panties_62 | 20% Done" then they type disconnect into console and never come back. I love cosmetics too, but if it means we get new players at the cost of me not being able to play as Reyna on TTT, so be it. It's also why our Retakes server does so much better routinely than all our other servers; there's like nothing to download so it's way quicker for new people to join. - I know we all love our cosmetics, but luckily with the new supporter system, we don't have to pander ridiculous bullshit like particle effects to the highest tier anymore. I say we purge more than half of our cosmetics starting with the particle effects and biggest file-models, or at least temporarily until we get our old player numbers back.

[Applied] Tf2 Servers
Pyro Looga posted a topic in Completed
Hello everyone, If you were at the most recent community meeting there was a point about bringing back the TF2 servers under a new direction compared to the previous Arena/Versus Saxton Hale of the past server. This thread is for you guys to decide what TF2 game mode(s) you would like to see and even play. If a game mode is not mentioned please feel free to post it in the reply to this post. Firstly, Casual Alternative, this will be a casual alternative meant for players who don't want to play casual because of cheaters and other reasons. A server like this will include: A collection of the "main Game modes" Payload Attack/Defend King of the Hill Control point Personally I think this has the most potential to succeed in the modern TF2 climate as people are sick of cheaters ruining the game. This also has the most flexibility for events as its easy as switching the map for an event Secondly, TF2 Jailbreak, Similar to CS:GO jailbreak players on the red team have to either survive the guards orders or rebel and kill all the guards. A server like this will include: Typical jailbreak rules TF2 jb maps are practically the same as CS source maps A warden This is another great option for players who like jb but are sick of CS:GO jb. This would be a complicated server to implement IMO but it could easily be done with a little elbow grease. If you have questions on specifics of how TF2 jb differs from CSGO jb I'll be happy to clarify in the reply's Thirdly, Death Run, This game mode you have to make it to the end of the map whilst avoiding traps set off by one of the payers trying to stop you. A server like this will include: 1 death you're out rule 1 player is randomly picked to push buttons and try and stop other players first person to the end wins One of my favorite game modes, I've only really seen a few servers full that run this kind of game mode, If you're a fan of ZE this is a great choice Lastly, 24/7 Two Fort or Hightower, This is another extremely popular choice among TF2 players who just want to join a server and kill people without having to worry about an objective ruining their killing spree. A server like this will include: Either Two fort or Hightower being the only map being run on the server Objectives disabled (no flag on two fort and no carts on Hightower) A place where people go to fight This is a great choice if you're into a DM style of gameplay, no objective means no interruption. This is one of the most popular modes for TF2 players thus leading it to be "over saturated" making it hard for a server like ours to stand out if you don't already know of the server. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All the choices have potential to do well, that's why I'm curious to hear your opinions on the matter and what servers you would like to see (in TF2 if course). The reason why the TF2 servers before have failed was poor mode selection, as arena isn't a popular mode now a days. So if you have any thoughts and opinions regarding TF2 servers please let your thoughts be heard. -
Given the state of the community; the lack of forum activity and how dead the servers are, I think we should separate the server subforums into their own sections, or at least Jailbreak, TTT, and MG. While the sidebars with the latest posts and threads are useful, I often come across threads by scrolling through the forum. Maybe that's an old habit given I used the forums before those sidebars, but I still think this could help even if marginally. For reference, I'm referring to this: Separate out those three servers into their own sections so in case a TTT thread gets made or anything else in that section, it doesn't overlap anyone else like myself trying to call attention to threads about my server. This could also help people who aren't avid forum users see the section of the server they play easier.

Hey, I brought this up at the community meeting, if I recall correctly the people who were speaking mostly agreed. My last point will be controversial but that's expected. - Remove the Modding Team - Remove the Marketing Team - Remove the Designer Team - Remove the Streamer Team - Remove the Internal Affairs Team I'll take it point by point, but the idea is pretty much the same for all of them. The community is not in a good place and we don't need all these moving parts. All these teams are afterthoughts when it comes to actually reviving the community in the first place. None of them do much for actual community growth and anything they do that could actually help can just be delegated to certain people. It's time for everyone's focus to be on getting people to actually join the community and people being apart of these teams and them existing at all distracts from that purpose, imo. The Modding Team is especially useless as it stands because everyone has sort of given up on CS:GO it seems, but as I said, even if their skills are required it's not as if removing the rank removes the people. If anything, it may even be better for this team to be dissolved and for server managers to have the ability to make public requests for any fixes they need, it's a bit more engaging that way. You still have the people who resided on the team able to view them and help and you also may have other people who are into modding chime in and help too. This can promote forum growth. The Marketing Team has always sort of been a sub-species of Community Advisor in a way, imo. Each and every thing they've done from when I was around realistically could've been delegated to the CAs, but it was beneficial at the time to have a smaller group of people who oftentimes had a knack for discussing marketing topics. At this point, we don't really need to be seeking out sponsorships or anything like that. The only beneficial thing I can see them doing right now is discussing a donor system rework, which can be given to CAs and should honestly be discussed with the community as a whole. The Designer Team has always been useful but it's the same premise with the Modding Team. Requests can be made public, it can promote forum growth (even if it's marginal it's worth it), and as of right now anything we do doesn't need a pretty banner behind it, it just actually needs to be useful. Most events have banners already and if public requests don't work, you don't actually need a banner and you can almost always find something decent looking and relevant on the internet. Anything else they do like COTM and the Art Contest if those still go on, as I keep saying, not a priority in the slightest. The Streamer Team has been odd from the jump imo. I can see the usefulness of it if we could really put time and energy into growing our Twitch, but our Twitch isn't going to save the community. At this point if anyone believes in the potential of it, like I keep saying, you can just delegate the responsibility to them. Is anyone even in this rank as it stands? I can also see the difficulty of finding someone willing to stream for our community, it seems to me the rank has struggled since release. Correct me if I'm wrong. Here's the controversial one. Even though it's the biggest one, I'm gonna keep it short and let people retaliate first. The IA team has three small responsibilities that can be delegated elsewhere with ease. Perm and increase requests can be given to the server managers, they shouldn't need to make them and they should be able to approve or deny them, it's not a difficult task. They're trusted with managing an entire server or two already. Ban appeals always would've made more sense in the hands of the managers of the server the person was banned from. But it'd actually be easier for the server managers as a whole to just discuss a ban appeal and then run it by the LSM for final decision. The other responsibility you can argue is day-to-day SG drama. I'm very safely assuming that that's died down heavily from where it was long ago. There doesn't seem to be many big ban appeals or important Who Got Banned and Why posts, and it makes sense. People aren't here, and when they are they probably don't care to get caught up in beef. It just doesn't seem like enough to warrant an entire team anymore. The BDs can handle anything that comes up, and it's actually easier that way since you're just removing a bunch of people who need to cast votes. If second opinions or tie breakers are needed, you can look to the server managers. I don't mean to make it out like I'm trying to turn server managers back into AOs, because to the best of my knowledge AOs had a hell of a lot more power and say than just being asked for their thoughts when need be or doing perm requests and ban appeals. I just firmly believe this community should be returning to the barebones of a rank structure while it tries to heal itself, we don't need all of these moving parts on anyone's plate right now. Now obviously someone in staff can clap back and say absolutely none of these teams are taking up any unnecessary time from relevant parties, and while I'd find it hard to believe I wouldn't be able to deny it.

Fellow gamers, SG is undoubtedly not in a great place regarding forum/server activity. Activity on here has been as low as I have seen it in my time here. I would like to propose an idea that may seem crazy but may also revitalize SG. Unban all regulars on a one time last chance basis. This would bring in a lot of old members who were one time very active and may bring some life to the forums/servers. This idea seems a little crazy but in my opinion people change, and there ain’t going to be a community to ban from if things don’t change soon. There will of course be repeat offenders etc, but how hard is it to hit the ban button lol. Thoughts?

I believe it's time for the Zombie Escape server to be removed from the SG servers. The server honestly only ever has pop when events are made for it and never has pop otherwise. The most pop I see this server get is 5 without an event on. It is just not enjoyable to play ZE with under 15 people or maybe even 20. I get there is players that love playing ZE but it's time to realize that the server just isn't doing well anymore and just be considered removal. I know there will be a discussion below but in my opinion ZE doesn't have players without events and even look at this picture, THE TOP 15 players literally have less than 3 days on the server yet are still on the leaderboards. I don't play ZE much but by looking at a lot of the stats and just checking the community browser page on CS:GO I never see people on. Another picture for you all which was taken a while ago in a previous thread called, "Retire dead servers?* It was in July but now the population is even worse as you can see by the other screenshot. Another statistic from recently. These are the stats of the last month december 1st to 31st.

The "Applying for Admin" guide is also a little outdated on account of some of the same information (regarding my previous post), I don't think it is necessary to make a whole new discussion topic explaining (hence my last post) so I'm just going to cite the information that is outdated. "For Members Responding to Admin Applications or Posting on Others Keep your posts on topic and polite. Off topic worthless posts will be deleted. You CANNOT simply post "^ this" if you agree with another assessment. Please write your own response to explain why you are voting the way you are. You should provide a reason why the person applying should have admin. Provide specific examples of why the person would be a good admin, such as past experiences and how the person has been helpful as a regular player. If you are voting reapply, try to give feedback on what they should improve on in addition to your reasons. If an application has been approved, you can feel free to post congratulations or offer advice as an admin if you wish." P.S: Sorry for not including it in the other post I didn't realize until now @Greggy G@oSen

The "Admin Applications FAQ" is a little outdated. First things first it still talks about the old strike system which should probably be changed so people understand consequences. Second, it still includes things regarding member decisions. As we all know, members cannot say yes or no anymore and this FAQ still addresses this. I have noticed slight updates over time but that about wraps this post up.

[Applied] Tweak community guide
Starlegendgod posted a topic in Completed
Came here to ask if you guys can update/tweak one of the community guides as it's a little outdated, Specifically the appealing guide. Delete the "Admin who banned you" section as it no longer applies to the current appeals as of right now. If you feel this is unneeded please let me know. -
[Applied] Adding more Awards(ranks)
Starlegendgod posted a topic in Completed
I'm suggesting for adding a administrator(a rank in general for CSGO/Rust/Squad) and a Community advisor rank award. These are few ranks you can't/unable to get awards for at the moment. located here if you want to see the current award system for obtaining ranks here in SG: https://steam-gamers.net/awards/category/1-loyalty-awards/ I think maybe adding at-least one of them especially when you could get a award for being in many other ranks including division ranks. I felt that it should appropriate to add administrator and Community advisor as well. You could argue not to add admin award rank due to the sheer # of current admins and ex admins but since we have 1 day playtime for all SG servers(easily obtainable if you want to have it) I think it's manageable located here(if you like to know) The reasoning behind it is to show more recognition for regs/staff (more to show respect to ex CA's and admins excluding the honorable/veteran/legend ranks that is already in placed) ---------------- If you feel that you this a good/bad idea or already talked about please let me know in the comments. -
I think it would be sick if SG would to add more lr options, I think it would make the community very happy having lots of different options than the ones we've had for forever. I think it would be an amazing add to JB. Pros: - Adds more options during lr. - Players would be happy to have a change. - Lr system would finally have an update. Cons: - Would take decently long to update.

I have not been active in the community for quite a while and upon coming back I've seen that SG had expanded it's servers quite a bit. I also noticed that the player count and community has also seemingly shrunk since I had left. With this inference in mind, it seems there are servers with terrible or no player populations which I think should be considered to be removed. The servers I am calling into question goes as follows. Server Name Player Population (Last 30 days) Crackhouse Flatlined... If this were my bpm I would have died a long time ago... Rust With the y-axis being so unproportionate it is difficult to tell the actual population of the servers. From what I can tell it seems that the average population is <= ~5. Personally I would find that playing on a rust server with less than 10 people incredibly boring, let alone 5. Scrim I believe that this server is only used for events and requires a password to be joined. If the server needs a password to join why even advertise it on the public server list? You could just post the server IP where the event is being hosted. Zombie Escape It seems that the average player population is about 2 players, with the exception of the 2 spikes. That being said, who tf is going to play zombie escape with 2 players. TF2 Fort This isn't completely dead I guess, but is not performing too great. I've never played this game mode so I couldn't tell you if playing with < 5 players is actually playable. All Squad Servers All 3 squad servers have similar graphs to this one, A max of 2 players in the past month? Yikes! I don't see the point. I'm not sure how you guys host these servers but it just seems like a waste to keep these servers up, some more than others. I guess you could keep them up in the hopes that one day people will join them again but I personally don't see that happening without some manipulation.

[Applied] ZE Suggestions
Leon Mordecai posted a topic in Completed
I thought up of some suggestions that I thought the ZE server might need or things that I found that were annoying. Reduce knockback, increase tagging As it stands, the knockback for zombies is quite high, especially the headshot knockback. I would say lowering the knockback or arms, body, and legs by 30-50%, and head by 20%. To compensate for the reduced knockback, increase the tagging amount when zombies get shot to slow them down. Also maybe increase the ignition slow time for grenades if need be. For explanation of what the hell tagging is: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=412879303 Change models/get rid of excess ones Summer freak, please get rid of it. As for the other models, we could try to cut down like 1-2 of them off from the server (like that Siren zombie model. Fuck it lol.) Points need to be changed/revamped I think some of the point gains need to be lowered. For example, points for damage should be increased to like 2500-3250. As for zombie kills, lower it between 0.5-1 points if lowering by decimals is even allowed on the current rank plugin. Setting to hide countdown timer or revert back to old one While the new door countdown timer with the visual is cool, I feel like there should be a setting to just hide it if there isn't one already on the server. Either that or revert back to the countdown timer that was on the top of the screen since I liked that one better. I do like how it prints out the specific round time in the chat. Fix ammo clip size reload delay When I reload a gun, it reloads back to the default clip size at a certain part of the animation before going to the increased clip size amount after the reload animation is done. If you switch out your weapon before it changes to the new clip size it won't fully reload the clip. Please fix so that guns reload to the increased clip size immediately. Please discuss or post other suggestions for ZE. Thanks. -
I personally think changing the default to ba_jail_electric_razor_go_pb is a bad idea, since it gets boring after while at lower populations and isn't too fun and gets repetitive for both CTs and Ts. I think jb_vipinthemix_b1 or jp_undertale_v1e, maybe even jb_summer_jail_hdr_fix. They're all filled with secrets for Ts, have many fun death games, and are community favorites (at least from my extremely limited understanding). They are also very fun when able to LR, with the death games being fun. ba_jail_electric_razor_go_pb, comparatively, has no death games, only one feature remotely resembling a game of sorts (soccer), probably has the easiest secrets to check (as CT, you can take three of the guns from the area near armory and check the one secret that teleports you to soccer, essentially making half the secrets impossible to utilize). When you go to LR, since there's no death games, you can only use the few LRs baked into the !lr command. In the end, ba_jail_electric_razor_go_pb is a bland map with literally no death games, while the other maps listed above (jb_vipinthemix_b1, jp_undertale_v1e, and jb_summer_jail_hdr_fix) are some of the best maps on here, packed with features that really show what the game mode ideally should be like. Therefore, just change it to any of the above maps (listed right about here ^) (I don't remember the old default map, so if it was any of the good maps stated above, then just revert it please)

We should offer to host community related/involved streamers on our twitch so that both our brand and their own individual brand can grow. I think a big reason we're lacking a twitch presence is due to people who already consistently stream have no interest in streaming on the official SG twitch and would rather try and build their own brand out instead of streaming for the steam gamers twitch. I think we could have a much more active channel if we start offering to host some of these guys like @kabLe who consistently streams on his own channel and is still active within the community somewhat. @Mace @BoM

It's 7:48 in the morning, I'm listening to "Falling Down" on loop and went on the forums to see if there was anything new. Then I realized, wait; I remember seeing something a LONG time ago on maybe eGO or Karma TTT and it's a plugin that basically stops people from cursing and giving them a warn message in chat. Which I'm pretty sure is configurable? And I'm am 100% fine with people cursing on the servers (in chat) BUT I think it would be a good feature to add to stop people from saying the hard r or any other bannable words in chat! So basically what I'm trying to say is, words like, "Fuck, Bitch, Loser, Cunt." I wouldn't have a problem with those words not being put/added into the plugin. (mind you, i have no idea how easy or not to configure plugin files or whatever so dont smite me.) It would help with stopping racial slurs being thrown in chat whenever that does happen. Cause y'know, Gen Z is filled with a bunch of edgy teens who think hardcore racism is LOL XD LMAOOASFG What is your input on a plugin like this being added to our servers? I personally think It'd be a great addition to add! (this isnt bad, its funny and posts without pictures are lame)

After seeing what @edensaid in his post about admin app voting changes it give me a bit of inspiration to put my thoughts into words. I've kept quiet since future changes to admin apps and such have been foreshadowed but I feel it also can't hurt to put my thoughts out there and hear the thoughts of others. You'd need to be blind to see that there is a growing displeasure with the quality of newer admins of late (no disrespect to any current admins, what you guys do it voluntarily and should be appreciated), so it's ever clearer that the recent change to admin app voting is more than likely a step to help improve the quality of admins let into the system. I feel a good addition to a new system of getting admins would be a return of stricter requirements before applying for admin. Now, setting an arbitrary restriction on who can and can not apply for an admin position can definitely be tricky. I personally feel there should be both a time in the community requirement and a playtime requirement before being able to apply. As forums become a less popular form of communication, I think a required post count is pointless. The classic argument for this is BoTo has been staff for a long ass time and has a whopping total of like 40 public posts. Requirements such as 24 hours in-game on the applicant's favorite server and 3 months in the community would prove useful bars to set that aren't ridiculous. Ways to prove 3 months in the community would be things including: A session in server from 3 months + ago, a forum join date, or a discord join date. These of course are just limits i'm pulling out of thin air, but I think they would be an interesting starting point. (Apologies for any grammatical errors, i typed this on my phone and will fix later)

I've seen some private discord valorant scrims and I would like to see sg start a valorant scrims where the top 2 highest ranked in valorant are captains and pick players, maps, and bans (for maps) I would gladly be in charge of starting the scrims as I see myself play valorant a lot and have the time to mange it. We should start a valorant scrims early in the game as I don't see many valorant scrims for the public and I'm sure it will become a popular scene where people want to tryhard and improve without the ranking system burdening them.

Make there be a setting menu accessed by typing "!settings" In chat that and toggle off flashlight and maybe other useful things in servers like Jailbreak and TTT. I find it annoying every time I go to inspect my weapon it toggles on and off the flashlight.

Not an original idea, I know for a fact this idea has been on the waters. I just would like to see if this could be given a little more attention on the table and hear from the community what everyone thinks about having an SG KZ server with map records, long jump stats, etc. Making this post to see what everyone's thoughts and opinions. EDIT 1: Thank you to all the replies and those who supported! I added a poll as suggested by @Che

So, as I am a jb reg. In the last 5 days we have had over half a dozen cheaters log on and run chaos on the server. So I have 2 ideas on this to deter or eliminate future attempts. 1, (Now if this is possible) Create a lvl cap for players. Now As most cheaters make accounts from lvl 2-5. If we set a lvl cap of 10 and no prestige. While yes I know of some regulars that won't fill this requirement. But this is probably a more common way to deter as they would have to purposly waste more time to attack the server and probably make the basement trolls not want to put there time and effort for just a 10 minute joyride. 2, Make a server time requirement for ct. Now this will solve 2 things. New players from not knowing the rules strolling and messing things up that they didnt mean to. 2 remove the chance of hackers using their time on the server. Making a time spent alive timer (Same thing to the ct ban system) As this ensure no hackers at low times of the server afk time grinding for there alts. Please, reply with your stance on agreeing with these ideas against, or adding your own ideas of what could be changed for JB.

I think you should make all the maps 7-10 mins long so there arent any accidental forced deathgames, and just so we can enjoy the maps for longer
