There aren't too many games that have community servers, and some games that do have community servers are either completely dead, or not worth our time to even try and implement. Though we do have certain games that have caught our eyes such as Battlebit, which has a really good community server basis. And we also want to look into Sandstorm and such.

There are opportunities to have dedicated servers for new games, but we also would need members to fill them up to the point that non-members are inclined to join.  I mean I would personally love a Hell Let Loose server and would help manage it, but I cannot populate it on my own.  The same goes for other games out there that arent as popular as CS2.

Then with CS2 we have to just wait for it to actually be possible to have the servers we want.  Many people come in discord and ask about ZE, JB, and Surf.  Right now, I think it is possible to get some CS2 servers up for other game modes though (like deathmatch and 1v1 arena).

And with what we should do with the discord, I personally think- remove certain channels like the insurgency one, destiny 2, politics, food, all that stuff. Heavily unused and adds a lot of clutter. Simplify the discord and keep it clean.

I do not understand this to be honest.  All of the discord chat channels are used often.  Many people use politics and food.  The issue with discord channels are the numerous voice channels and the organization of some of the channels.  For example we really need a "shopping" channel or something to discuss purchases and deals.  Or a channel to discuss the flavor of the month.  If it were me, and I do this for my own discord with my friends, I setup roles for all non-primary to be joinable and un-joinable.  This is similar to the game roles.  The destiny channel for example should only appear for persons who have the destiny role.  Why should everyone be forced to see it?  Same goes for CS2 category.  The only channels that should be "mandatory" are general discussion channels and info / announcements.

I'm pretty sure you've read the post in the CA section where I legitimately called for Caution and Gator to both resign, which ended up happening not too long after. I'd say things went pretty well from there when Revenga and I ran things while being super active, definitely better than when the people at the top were inactive. This is why in recent months I've posted a few times (one time in that public BD chat I think) about being willing to resign if Caution called for it. I realize my mistake here was that Caution is also inactive currently, so I should've put that offer out to the Board.

How are you going to paint yourself better than myself and Caution lmao? I even said the same thing of resigning if Caution asked lol. It's a good thing I didn't though since it seems everyone who would've taken my place is now banned...

Claiming it was "definitely better than when the people at the top were inactive" must be in the eye of the beholder, seeing how there are now what, 3 servers?

If you guys have any hope of turning this around, you need to stop expecting AO's to turn around the servers and start doing it yourselves and support the servers you do have. I poured a lot of hours and money into making the FiveM server, just for @Hawksto be the only BD to join the server (shout out @Nishok for all of his help and mentoring during that time and @Acer for playing with me all the time).

So... I'm going to start this with responses to the actual point of this thread so if you want info on the clusterfuck then skip to the second part. :)

There has been multiple points back and fourth about where to go with the forums. I can say right now that the forums will probably not go anywhere. Even if we add a landing page for servers and discord there will still be a way to access them and most likely they will be up as normal. The current goal from mine and most of the AO+ eyes' is to make the navigation as simple as possible for newer players. Most kids and even adults now days are not as familiar with forums/websites as most of us are. There is a big portion of people who use discord as their primary or only source of information, the idea is not really to get rid of anything but instead just tone things down as if we are a new community with a small playerbase.

Now for this thread turned into. I will start this by saying something we have said before but people seem to keep forgetting. We will always consider harassment and bullying as a serious offence and just have no tolerance for it. This seemed to be started by someone on an alt and vpn that didn't like Dominic and Caution and decided it would be a good idea to bring up random useless info (to this thread) and just generally complain. Do with that as you will, Dominic who knows who this person is and had a history with him went back and forth a few times, arguably driven by emotion each side spoke with that instead of looking at it as a broad spectrum and troll response (from each side) as they should have. Skipping over some of the details this is genuinely okay and no issue was seen. We have no problem with people voicing their own opinion whether that be factual, emotional, or outright blasphemes. It truly does not matter, Dominic actually message the BD chat asking what our opinions were with him, and even Caution stepping down as they were/have been busy and inactive with life shit. After this happened we were still okay with more people responding and voicing their own opinions, like I said we don't care and you may speak your own free will given it doesn't break the rules (for obvious reasons).

Now the issue began when Lynx, an AO tried to tell the people typing +1 to stop, the point of this was that this thread was already off course but the people typing this were not giving any actual input and just posting useless shit. The reaction button does exist and can be used to get your point across. Either way after posting this the people that were banned started to harass and post hurtful shit directed at Lynx. People also decided to take this to discord where people were pasting similar stuff and continuing their hurtful comments directly at Lynx, not the staff as a whole, or the community as a whole, but directly harassing a 19 y/o as each person being an adult that should genuinely know better.

Here comes my perspective; I was at work when most of this happened, only getting a message from Dominic before most of this started asking about my opinion on him stepping down, which he did entertain. Shortly after this I saw the rest of the posts on the forums and responded to a few people on discord during the whole ordeal. The team had a meeting while I was still at work in which I backed almost all of you saying not to make a decision and came outright saying that I didn't agree with people being banned. This was until I got home and filled myself in my checking chat logs and seeing full grown adults harassing a 19 y/o on repeat about doing his job at his rank (mind you most of the people doing it wrote the damn rules and took place in the banning of GG, a similar situation). I really didn't understand how much drama came out of this for no reason and how a group of people piggybacked on Lynx for no reason, what everyone did was actual harassment and is just unacceptable. I backed almost every single one of you individually without knowing the situation because I felt like there was no way you could act like this to someone who is almost a child, yet I was proven wrong. If anyone would like to talk feel free to DM me privately, but this shit was childish and just inhumane. To inform everyone Kable was the only one permanently banned, the rest were given a 3 day ban.

This thread spiralled into an utterly bizarre direction. I think it's worth remembering this is just a gaming community. These petty grudges and clash of egos always just end up turning ugly. Most of you are grown adults getting this heated about something that exists for us to socialise and play games. It's legitimately embarassing.

Personally I'm fine if the thread shifts direction into airing grievances against certain people or even the AOs/BDs as a whole, since it could act as a catalyst for real change, especially when so many different voices jumped in at the chance. I get that some may feel jaded about it actually accomplishing anything, but this thread really did pop off and garner a lot of  attention. The problems arose when it got too hostile and spammed with useless "+1" comments and the like. All Lynx did was clean those up so the thread was easier to read and people went and attacked him for it. It was completely unnecessary and it made him feel like shit.

I was actually interested in what a lot of the ex-staff members had to say (as long as it was genuine), since I missed a lot in my time away from SG, but now they've been banned for the moment because we can't not ban them after the harassment against Lynxie.

Spiritwind and Ejivis have been making some great posts, and if there are people within SG or without who want to follow suit then do feel free. I can only hope the bans don't stifle the entire conversation as a whole.

i got linked this and want to drop some knowledge

successful gaming community -> focus on game

none of this stuff about sg politics matters at all, just keep people around who actually play and do things to help the servers and eventually you will have a good community

back when I was here, people who helped were drove out because of politics, thats why we are here now! (like me :D) guess that number of posts to become admin wasnt so arbitrary after all. and people who didnt help much would get promoted (popularity contest meme), further frustrating the ppl who did. whole thing is super simple, has been the whole time, no need to write 10 essays about it

i wish you all good luck, treat your volunteer workers who do work for free right, and things will probably go pretty well, just think about all the talent youve dumped over time lol

small edit i thought was funny, back when i was around i wont pretend like i was some genius helper god, but I went to college for computer science now, and as of literally right now I make sourcepawn plugins everyday almost! im sure there is some reality where the plugins i write would be for SG, js

john catching strays over some years old girl drama is wild and maybe indicative of who really needs the rubber room

other than that nothing to see here. community dead because servers dead. servers dead because of mismanagement. mismanagement because mostly incompetence, inactivity, sometimes spite.

community no dead if servers no dead.

discord and forums no matter if community dead.

Hope the caveman breakdown is digestible enough to figure out what needs to be done.
