Lux Posted February 19, 2009 Content Count: 6712 Joined: 03/06/08 Status: Offline Share Posted February 19, 2009 Do not jump to such conclusions. Based off the mathematical theory of probability, the probability that God's existence is indeed real is extremely high. The same theory (It had obviously been adapted for use of God's existence) was primarily used to determine whether there is other intelligent life out there in the universe besides we humans and it was concluded that there was undoubtedly 'aliens' out there purely through mathematical reasoning. It was nice of you to try and turn the tables on me with this 'close-minded' stuff, I'm flattered. There's a difference between aliens and a greater being. Aliens are going to be life forms...right? Whilst a greater being such as a God is completely different. You can't predict the chance of him being real because there is no science behind God, there is just faith. With things like the Big Bang theory you have probabilities because we as humans can look at how it would be possible and out of all of the possibilities calculate the probability. Obviously with the Big Bang theory we are still guessing in some parts though, so even that isn't completely fullproof. Of course religious people are more open-minded. No, you couldn't say that athiests are open-minded enough to accept the possibility of evolutionism. Evolutionism stemmed from the science of biology, and since science is the study of what we determine to be 'facts', then there is little to no faith involved. You ARE wrong. Since when do you need faith to be open minded? If you are open minded, you aren't stuck on one thing. So you might like a Mars bar but, its not your only chocolate you don't mind a Milky Way either. Open minded is a loose term, and I don't think you are using it in the right way, because to be open minded you don't have to have faith. A religious person by definition is not someone who denies the theory of evolutionism, as Slavic has already stated before me. Turning to insults isn't going to get you very far in philosophical discussion, just a heads up. Sigh........If you read your own post, my post and my reply to Slavic's post properly maybe you would see that this is MOCKERY OF YOU. Maybe you shouldn't turn to insults eh??? Just a heads up... Btw, I don't entirely agree with your description of Athiesm. People normally group Athiests into those who believe in Evolution but its not just God or Evolution, people have other beliefs too. I was not making refference to you in this quote. However if you want me to respond, whether the definition is legitimate or not in your mind is your own comprehension and as I have said before, I am not here to 'convert' you to my way of thinking, I am here purely for discussion purposes. OK, but like you I'm just putting my opinion across, why belittle my comprehension and defend your own? Please don't go all defensive and start lashing out with insults, I thought that you would be mature enough to handle it. It has been a really interesting discussion so far so keep it up. Hypocritical. I'm mature but you don't read my posts properly, I'm hardly lashing out with insults (except to those who rant at me when reading my post wrong....I'm getting frustrated with people quoting me out of context). I'm not defensive really, if anything I've been a tad offensive, and you have been completely defensive. You might say I'm defensive on some comments you've made but, only against ones directed against me not those based on the actual topic. I don't appreciate comments against me which are wrong, or from those who are in no situation to be saying those things. Link to comment

Bullet Wound Posted February 20, 2009 Content Count: 2390 Joined: 09/24/08 Status: Offline Share Posted February 20, 2009 I think history has shown us that most people arn't open minded, whether they be religious or not, and that is due to the fact that most people are indeed idiots. Up until recently most people in our history were driven by religion/religious beliefs. So hes not wrong in saying that religious people are not as open minded as others (at least the older religious people), as the new religious people are always bending and shaping their rules so people are still lured into joining the religion. If this is the case then God's existence comes within the same boundries as those of aliens. You ARE wrong. Since when do you need faith to be open minded? Open minded is a loose term, and I don't think you are using it in the right way, because to be open minded you don't have to have faith. No, I am not. An Atheist by definition is someone who denies the existence of God or any other transcendent being. This means that they completely and utterly believe that there is no other existence other than their own (on a spiritual basis, meaning that this does not include their views on the existence of extraterrestrial life). Your analogies are more centered around agnosticism. Sigh........If you read your own post, my post and my reply to Slavic's post properly maybe you would see that this is MOCKERY OF YOU. If you are going to copy what I have said and then modify it to your own stance, then do it for a reason other than to be purely spiteful. You are saying it was a mockery of me, and you condescend me for 'turning to insults'? Hypocrisy is not a good trait to have. OK, but like you I'm just putting my opinion across, why belittle my comprehension and defend your own? I have not belittled your comprehension, I have merely questioned it and contradicted it. I was not hypocritical. I told you not to lash out with insults, and you call it hypocritical because 'I don't read your posts properly'. That doesn't make any sense. You misinterpret me, you are being quite defensive and cannot seem to handle people questioning your beliefs. You have been defensive through being offensive, I have merely stood my ground with my beliefs but at the same time just been there to try and understand other people's views, however it seems religion cannot be discussed without a flame war spawning. You know, I think you talk bullshit and I can't be bothered to have this discussion anymore. Its not even about religion, its just these stupid defensive remarks and trying to be smart. Should've just let it die. Link to comment

This is the thing, its turning into a competition. Potshot, I think your theory fails . I guess I was only interested in Philosophy because it was a mandatory (sadly) subject in highschool and I like talking about religion being wrong, which the teacher always seemed happy to discuss. Although when it came to exams on it.....yeah.....like I'm going to revise stuff like Christian/Islamic/Jewish (etc)'s views on marriage. Link to comment
