How is he wrong? The direct cause of WWII would be WWI, or more accurately, the demands placed on Germany at the end of WWI.

 

The French demanded land and 6 billion German marks from Germany, which damaged their national pride and national economy. Their economy went down the shitter, joblessness increased, and general living conditions decreased.

 

This paved the way for the Nazis to come to power in the 30s. They gave the people something to vent their anger on (Blaming the jews for their economical troubles and loss during the War, and blaming the Democratic Government for failing to repair the economy).
