It's very likely that if we as humans continue to grow the way we are currently we won't really last for another couple Millenniums and wasting time on less important things like astrobiology won't be helpful to us. I see. At the moment technology is advancing at quite a rate (It doubles in complexity every two years). I may have mentioned this before but we are now beginning to understand the workings of the human brain. Soon we may be able to artificially enhance people's intelligence and we may even be able to remove emotions! All emotions are, are electrical impulses which surge throughout the synapses in the brain, and once we can master those, people can control their emotions. Of course, this is going to lead to all different kinds of ethical issues once the breakthrough has been made. 'Talents' too can be given and removed. Say if someone is particularly gifted at mathematics. All that means is that in the specific region of their brain, there are more synapses joined together, thus they are able to traverse their impulses a lot quicker. Our planet is gradually becoming fucked up, I agree. However, this does not mean that everyone is ignorant of the fact. There are people out there with pretty amazing inventions which cause no harm to the environment and could replace our gas-guzzling cars of today (Like the hydrogen car which is becoming more and more recognised). You sure? I'm not completely confident in this, lol. Do you have a source? :o Link to comment

Indeed, I remember watching a documentary about a vent like device that sucks up a significant amount of toxins in the air and filters it. It's only about the size of a mansion chimney at the moment but people are working to make it as large as a electricity plant to place near and around cities. I just hope the creators get enough funding and support for that to actually happen. Back to topic, Extraterrestrials exist, there really isn't a reason not to. If life could survive (as single cells) on a shithole like Earth during the Hadean eon then I really see no reason it can't a couple of millions light years away. With favorable conditions life could develop easily in our universe, unless it develops around a red giant star, then it's screwed. Edited March 7, 2009 by Coffee Crisp Link to comment
