The following reasons may be your problem...

-Graphics Card

-Video Card

-Memory

-HDD

-Ram [Low/Less Ram]

If it's the Graphics Card/Video Card then you need an upgrade.

Those are the main reasons.

none of those.

Source engine games are dependent on the CPU.

Also, the two listed at the top are the same.

How much space you have on your computer doesn't lag your game... as far as I know (HDD)

I'm not saying that completely. But if you're running a quad with a 7600 you'll be fine. Source distributes the work load to other parts of the computer. I remember getting a FPS boost with a new sound card.

for example:

I remember when i runned an 8600 I checked out some CSS benchmarks. people playing 1280x1024 were getting 150 fps average on dust2, while I got an average of 60-70 fps on 1024x768. I looked at the other parts of the next computer and it was running a much better processor. I run a 9500GT now with the same settings and i only get about 90-100 fps where if I were running with more ram, a higher ghz processor I'd get about 150.

thats not just source engine broseph.. thats any game.. thats how a computer works.

Of course the cpu limits the video card, there's a bottle neck caused by the speed of the CPU compared to the much faster, more specialized speed of the GPU.

and an HDD could easily slow you down, but thatd be if it was bad/old and had long seek times.
