The G1 HTC does not let you do this unless you root the phone.

only if they come unlocked, there are work arounds, but I assume they void your warranty.

unlocked phones cost the price of the phone, with possibly a slight markup or so. you'd be amazed how much a 2 year contract is worth to a phone company.
