I have a question to ya'll popular peoplez with expensive shit, or highsky.

Do internet phones like the sidekick or G1 need a data plan to even function, and if not will I get internet without the plan in a wireless range? like the iTouch?

My blackberry has a data plan that allows me to use the EDGE network to access the internet when WiFi is not available. If you are within range of an unsecured wireless network however, you're able to use it.
