If you don't feel like reading about it, it's about a low frequency sound heard somewhere in the Pacific by the U.S. Navy. It matches the sound of an animal, but there is no known animal that makes this sound. There is a sound byte in the wiki page if you're interested in what it sounds like.

I've seen the vid of the vampire squid before on "Planet Earth," an amazing series about the various species of animals/plants/etc of the world.
