You can download an app that makes a folder in your documents that you can drag and you can access your music/files/etc on their website, so if you upload a .swf you can play it off your account, or play music with quicktime. Winamp: http://www.winamp.com/ Back in the day, winamp was the shit compared to players like WMP and iShit, infact, it's still pretty cool, but it has some flaws (they made a web browser for it, *facepalm*). Great music player, offers built-in global hotkeys. Google Chrome http://www.google.com/chrome Wassat, you still usin firefox? Well get out from under that rock, because Google Chrome is pretty much the fastest browser right now, although it doesn't offer very much addon support YET, it is fast, has 'google experiments' which use javascript that google has perfectly optimized for fun and games (Google Experiments even has a NES emulator, inorite!!!). Pidgin http://www.pidgin.im/ Pidgin is a universal instant messaging client for things like..... AIM, MSN, Gtalk, Jabber, ICQ, IRC, YIM, etc etc etc. IRC is a bit lacking but eh who cares it's got a SHITLOAD of plugins for it to make up. Please, post your favorite software, include some info about it, and feel the 1 Link to comment

Burn4Free http://www.burn4free.com/ Comes with a toolbar, but its well behaved so you can just disable it in IE/FF. It's a one-screen burning program that can burn pretty much everything in pretty much any way and shows you how much space you're taking as you go along several scales for CD/DVD and so on based on what you've put in the working area. It's extremely fast, very lightweight, and I've never made a coaster with it. QT-Lite and MPC http://www.codecguide.com/about_qt.htm http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/ Media Player Classic is exactly what it sounds like, it's a REALLY lightweight and minimalist media player for videos and whatnot, think quicktime or windows media player before the nasty bloat. QT Lite is a codec set kinda thingy that combined with MPC lets you play embedded quicktime content without needing the bloaty quicktime. Allway Sync http://allwaysync.com/ Think dropbox but inside of your network and more intelligent. Set up however many folders on two computers, set up the options, and run allway to either intelligently merge the two computers based on what's newest or force match one computer to another. You only need Allway on one comp but there are supposedly advantages to having it on both. Personally I use it to keep my laptop synced to my home computer for coursework and whatnot. That's about it, Xplorer 2 and Partition Magic are awesome as well but most people know about the latter (and it's not useful in every day life) and the former's a for-pay program. Link to comment
BOOWY Posted September 19, 2009 Content Count: 868 Joined: 04/30/08 Status: Offline Share Posted September 19, 2009 F.lux http://stereopsis.com/flux/ Changes the brightness/color settings of your monitor according to the time of day. Makes your monitor easy on the eyes at night so when you go to bed it has less of an impact on your eyes and supposedly helps you sleep better/faster. CutePDF Writer http://www.soft32.com/download_199211.html Gives your computer an extra printer option. When you go to print something up where your list of printers are, selecting CutePDF Writer will ask you where you want to save a PDF version of that printed material. Handy for resumes and is an alternative way to store websites. Great way to store online manuals as well without having to save the website or actually having to print out the manual. Crimson Editor http://www.crimsoneditor.com/ More for programmers but there's nothing wrong with using it as a text editor. Certainly better than using Notepad/WordPad. I used it a lot in college when I was coding in Java. WinSCP http://winscp.net/eng/index.php Wonderful FTP/SFTP client. 1 Link to comment
