trakaill Posted October 3, 2009 Content Count: 3736 Joined: 11/30/07 Status: Offline Share Posted October 3, 2009 So I have an HP photosmart C7180...there are a few ways to connect this printer to your comp! USB, Ethernet, 802.11 (wifi) or bluetooth... I decided to go with Ethernet to my router because it would for one save me a USB port which I need and second allows me to print with my netbook from anywhere in the house.. Now I have a major issue with that set up, I CANNOT scan any documents so my question is, is there anyway to scan through an ethernet cable??? Iv been trying for hours and it always comes back to a weir communication error message..I tried to goggle it with no success so I come to you SG friend to see if anybody has encountered this issue or if it is even possible... I was able to PRINT through the ethernet cable.. It does scan through the USB cable I tried successfully.. Im about to cry Link to comment

Have you ever scanned something through ethernet cable cause Ive tried everything I can think of..Ive came to the conclusion that it was gonna be impossible.. http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1254544025577+28353475&threadId=1093906 apparently this guy had a similar problem and seems to have been just as successful as I was... Windows 7 somehow automatically found all of my HP device drivers and installed them. Much easier than software. It is possible to scan through ethernet, my roommate just did it to test. There's nothing theoretically impossible about it. It's most likely a software problem, which is no surprise coming from HP, the worst software distributors out there. I don't know much about scanning specifically, but I would suggest to either get a third party program (if such exists), or go out to radio shack and pick up a usb cable. Hell, you might even have one lying around, since it's likely USBA-USBB, a common cable setup (one is sort of squarish and the other goes into your computer). Link to comment
