what kind of card do either of you have? your monitor red? because i've never even heard of this problem.

also, SS, you've tried putting css at the native res? (i'd assume you have windows set to the native res)

8800gt

22"

It took me a while when I first installed 7 to figure out the fix, luckily other people had the same problem and someone figured out the solution. It's just a simple -command you add to the launch options.

sure, i just am trying to figure this out beyond googling a dirty fix like that, i don't have this problem, just the dual monitor insta-crash. (if anyone has 2 screens and uses w7, css crashes when loading for whatever reason. the way you fix it is to right click css's hl2.exe and under compatibility, check "disable desktop composition")

EDIT: also, have you checked what frequency you have the monitor set to? if the Hz is out of range, it will make your monitor do some funky things.

still googling for this nasty fix of red's but so far all i've got is try putting -freq 75

EDIT2: The fix is probably -full

also, an attempt at a real fix: for either of you, in your Nvidia Control Panel, under scaling, do you have "fixed aspect ratio" or "nvidia scaling with fixed ratio" or some sort checked? because that could be the problem.. otherwise, just strange/offmarket monitors i suppose (and with SS's being hp, i don't doubt it too much)

Also, SS, you don't need to go to windowed mode to take a screen shot.. just hit f5. it auto saves a .jpg in your css folder under screenshots or something like that.

I tried the Nvidia control panel thing, but that didn't work. Tried the freq thing too.

The dual monitor fix is good to know, I was sad that I couldn't run CS with dual screen, will have to fix that when I get home.

no.. just look at the box you put that in. do you really want to add the COMMENT "-full" lol?

you add it up there where Target: is. so itd be \Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 240 -full

OMGZ. guys, he finally listened to wrathek, and guess what?! IT WORKED. *gasp* =P

but no really, that was the first thing i said to do, was put it at native res.

and as far as the text, since i'm quite positive you aren't a 60 year old man, sounds like you need to get to the optometrist.

hmmm, are you sure you installed every single drivers? because this can be the problem, I had the same problem on my older computer with a 8800gtx, there was like 2 black band on each side of my monitor, then, I installed the rights drivers, and it works, be sure that, if your GC is a leaktek, to go on the leadtek, or eVGA websites, or whatever it is, this could work for you maybe ;)

hope you'll find

no. just. no. the problem happend to red, so i'm fully sure it wasnt a driver issue. also, get them from nvidia or some other place that updates with the nvidia drivers. evga etc drivers are the same thing, just behind and probably with bloat.
