(i have an asus crosshair iii motherboard) (i dont plan on overclocking, i just want a SILENT one. im tired of my computer sounding like a blow-dryer) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835702007 im open to any references as ling as they are quiet and cool well. But that cooler is definitely not going to be silent. 2 fans = not silent. I can be wrong; I'm not really good with coolers. I only go for the reputable ones, since noise is not an issue for me. Shadowex3 Posted October 30, 2009 Content Count: 2959 Joined: 02/27/08 Status: Offline Share Posted October 30, 2009 It might be, Yate Loons (good, quiet) and Noctua's (shit-poor airflow, utterly freakin silent) are. Thing I don't get is if you're already spending $55 freakin dollars you may as well go for name-brand heatsinks in the same +-$10 price range that are known to be basically freakin awesome: http://www.svc.com/u120e-rt-am2.html http://www.svc.com/u120e-bp-rev-c.html http://www.svc.com/nh-u12pse.html (equal to the TRUE, but comes with 2 dead silent noctuas) Link to comment
PotshotPolka Posted October 30, 2009 Content Count: 6084 Joined: 03/31/08 Status: Offline Share Posted October 30, 2009 If you want silent you want to go as big as possible arguably, larger fans at lower RPMs are quieter than tiny ones like your 80mm on there. Also I haven't listened to it but are you sure its not the GPU thats whirring up? That's usually what created the most noise for me with the 4870, but tweaking it with rivatuner should fix that. Otherwise, like I said go big: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118051 And if you want to consider upgrading your GPU heatsink/fans http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185081 Link to comment

Wrathek Posted October 30, 2009 Content Count: 1839 Joined: 09/28/08 Status: Offline Share Posted October 30, 2009 i someday wish to hear if my CPU cooler makes any noise.. i keep meaning to get new case fans because at LEAST 2 case fans are louder than a leaf blower, even with the speed controller and near 0. Shadowex3 Posted October 31, 2009 Content Count: 2959 Joined: 02/27/08 Status: Offline Share Posted October 31, 2009 Actually 4 and 3 pin fans are both compatible with each other, that's why they've got those little rails on the plug that line up with the piece on the mobo. Also the tuniq towers are ENORMOUS and their mounting hardware is subpar. Stick with the Noctua or TRUE. Link to comment
