The burning process formats them for you, as Wrathek stated. If you format them using Windows' built-in formatter, all you are doing it making your disc a storage disc, like a flash drive, without the rewritable feature. Once a disc is formatted with Windows' built-in formatter, it can't be used to burn a disc (I think). Link to comment
