dell sucks period

My dell works fine...

The only advantage of custom building is price..if I could put in a dell the same thing I can buy on new egg I would for warranty and all that shit.. and having professional backup...

Ill haventupdated yet btw not had time

hence why I will build my next and not buy a dell :)

And yes the mother board locks suck..Im actually afraid of buying a new cpu cause I read the mobo will sometimes give you trouble with dell computers...Ive been thinking of upgrading from my E6550 to an E8500 or a Q9400..dunno yet..I might just wait another year and build a whole new one next summer with an i7...

not just the price. the other gripes i have with them (as with nearly all other prebuilders) are the shittiest OEM versions of things they can throw into the computer (like if you order an x-fi you get a shitty one that can't record), and most importantly, they lock the motherboard down like you wouldn't imagine. (note that i cant blame them sadly, it protects their ass when it comes to warranty)

They make some of their parts and it's really bad. They use the BTW form factor, when almost everyone else uses ATX. My sister's Dell is a BTX and I'm scared to do anything with it.

BTX is the same as ATX, just backwards and with the CPU facing a different way. all components work with it, just you cant put it in an atx case.

I know that the any part that works for ATX will work for BTX, but everything is backwards and barely anyone uses. So now you have to get a special case if you want to change the case. You might also have to get a different heatsink.

Plus, the BTX form factor is not targeted at gamers and enthusiasts. Most enthusiast components are made in the ATX form factor.

Just let this thread die, the comments got retarded and its just a flame war

You my good sir needs to stop the crystal meth...people were just giving their opinions about dell computers....

On that subject I just put an ATX psu with no problem in my 530..I think it might be a problem to change the mobo though

Why they'd use BTX, I don't know. But what's bullshit with a lot of warranties is the "sealed" computer, as in the moment you pop the case open you break a seal and the warranty is voided, even if you're just cleaning the damn thing out.

Dell has a niche market in laptops and businesses, just like IBM. Gamers are a relatively small market, and are very, very, high maintenance in comparison.
