Other thoughts: I can't see a lot of areas you'd want to downgrade on here, if anything one thing to look at is adding two antec fans to the front for more airflow, about $20 each with LEDS if you want, and for the GPU temperatures can also be dropped by putting on a third party fan if the heat gets to be a problem. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185081&cm_re=RADEON_HD_4870-_-35-185-081-_-Product Input/(Healthy) Criticism is welcome before he goes to the bank. 1 Link to comment

Wouldnt it be better for him to buy one of the HD 5770's instead of the 4890? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102858 it's pretty much the same price, but you'd have DX11 with the 5770. And yes, the card is sold out atm, but will be in stock by the time he starts buying the hardware. Link to comment

You would buy a 128bit card over a 256bit? http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5770,2446.html The 4870 beats out the 5770 in every competition I've seen as of yet, DX11 aside. trakaill Posted November 13, 2009 Content Count: 3736 Joined: 11/30/07 Status: Offline Share Posted November 13, 2009 (edited) Id upgrade the cpu to an Q9400..its 189 for a significant performance upgrade..or an E8500 they both OC nicely but even if you dont they are fast!! Antec 900 is cheap right now..Id look at cool master cases as well. Also Id invest into a cpu heatsink rather than a gpu..or both ... Maybeupgrade the PSU to 550 if you want to go nVidia..
