its pretty interesting thinking but for someone like me who likes to maybe.. save an image he likes off the web its useless. i'd say this would work better for something like smartphones.

Google has a very very long way to go before they challenge Microsoft, probably a threat to Apple and Linux.

When did Google say they were attacking M$?

anyways, googles plan is to make a 'web-based' os, it'll never work though.

Although it's made for netbooks, google is saying that you should be connected to the internet 24/7, but with portable computers you don't always have internet.

So if persay, I wanted to open my VLC player and watch movies while I'm going to CANADIA, I would be royally fucked unless i got like 2 seconds of internet to start it up.

edit: also i heard about the 'games' things, games might run really well on Chrome OS because the ol' nvidia president or someone was with google at the time of the making.

so i just downloaded Chrome OS from the torrent link in this forum and i ran it as a virtual machine using VirtualBox.

it is pretty good if all you want/need to do is check your e-mail and watch youtube. i tried doing some school work in it but i couldn't stand the 'word' tool. i took some screen shots so ill post those when i get around to it.

the overall feel of it was like if u ever had to use "blackboard" for school but only more refined. (hopefully someone will know what I'm talking about)

p.s

i saw no way as for now to add games or steam :(

Glad to see a thread has generated some Intellectual discussion :d

Personally i don't think i will use it but if i could imagine my sister + half my irl mates using it any day.

I will agree that to have none of the loading idle programs that rape ur RAM etc is nice :d.

I dont think we are a good representation of whether it will fail or not. We are PC enthusiasts and this is a OS with no customization, altho it is fast :d

not a god damned one of you is looking at this the right way. this isn't designed in the SLIGHTEST to be ANYONE's main OS. It is COMPLETELY designed to be a second computer's OS, probably most specifically for netbooks.

(beyond torrenting) When it comes out, there will be no "downloading" this, it will be put onto computers that meet their specifications. (it will supposedly not boot on non-ssd drives.) And as far as freaking the fuck out because of lack of internet, your files in /home are cached, thus can be accessed when not connected to the internet, and will just re-sync when you ARE connected.

the OS doesnt REQUIRE an internet connection 24/7, it's just mostly based upon it. also, why the fuck are you even talking about installing games on something like this? like what the fuck, bring your phone or a ds, if you honestly cant go without a video game for a small period of time.

One last note, if you are that removed from internet that often in this day and age, i'm not sure why nor how you're responding to this thread, tbh.

like what the fuck, bring your phone or a ds,

i never thought of console gaming distribution. the browser for the wii sucks.

i was also thinking tho. how certain content is viewed? like for instance; to view a pdf file you need to download and install adobe. so how does it cover such websites that require app downloads to view their content?

if you read the article, it said instead of actual applications, there will be things similar to plugins for a browser. I can almost guarantee something like this will have pdf and flash support from install.
