My laptop is vista.

When i put my XP pro disc into the driver and boot up my latop to press any key to use CD

It will take a few minites to find the drivers and such.

Then half way though i got a blue screen of death.

Or should i use Dual boot for XP and Vista.

Plus i heard that you cant downgrade without deleteing your hard drive.

To resolve this problem, back up your files, and then perform a clean installation of Windows XP. To do this, follow these steps:

Click Start, click All Programs, click Maintenance, and then click Backup and Restore Center.

Click Set up backup, select the location for your backup files, and then click Next.

Continue with the wizard to select the following:

The drives and the file types to back up

How frequently to back up the drives and the file types

What time of day to perform the backup

Finish the wizard, and then click Save Settings and Start Backup.

When the back up is complete, perform a clean install of Windows XP. For more information about how to perform a clean installation of Windows XP, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

316941 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941/ ) How to install or upgrade to Windows XP

Note You cannot perform a clean installation of Windows XP by using an upgrade version of Windows XP. You must have the full version of the Windows XP.

Would that work?

I've never tried, nor will I ever, so I'm not sure. But, I'd assume its a given that you would have to reformat your hard drive to go to an earlier version of windows. Also, to get it to boot from the XP cd to format it as you already said, you'd probably have to go into bios and change the sata operation to legacy or SATA or something along those lines.

unfortunately you have to reformat your hard drive to go from vista to XP. you have to do what is called a 'clean' install.

but i don't suggest going back to XP. i dont know your reason but you can upgrade to 7 real easy from vista.

Some newer laptops can't even support XP if vista has been put on it first.

My laptop used to have vista, but I put it to XP Pro, but thats only because it said it was compatible with XP.

You might just be SOL.
