PotshotPolka Posted December 2, 2009 Content Count: 6084 Joined: 03/31/08 Status: Offline Share Posted December 2, 2009 (edited) I think since we get enough requests in here it'd be practical to make some lists using newegg (since they rarely take parts down completely) for players for different needs and price ranges. So I'll start with one I made for mNote I made the other night: Processor $150 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037 Motherboard $130 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131377 RAM $60 for 2X2GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146784 320GB HDD $50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136098 DVD Burner $30 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827118030 450W PSW $65 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139003 Antec 300 Case $60 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129042 Radeon HD 4870 $165 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-825-_-Product Grand total $710, shipping may cost extra. Other thoughts: I can't see a lot of areas you'd want to downgrade on here, if anything one thing to look at is adding two antec fans to the front for more airflow, about $20 each with LEDS if you want, and for the GPU temperatures can also be dropped by putting on a third party fan if the heat gets to be a problem. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-081-_-Product Edited December 2, 2009 by PotshotPolka Link to comment

If youve never built a pc yourself just have a look at this: http://www.pcityourself.com/building/processor.php Its just like legos. 1 Edited December 2, 2009 by Senior Link to comment
mNote Posted December 3, 2009 Content Count: 1554 Joined: 03/01/07 Status: Offline Share Posted December 3, 2009 (edited) I bought a different case that was on sale and it was the same price as the one Potshot posted (and roomier). Shipping costs on all of the items added together made the price come out to be: $751.43 I can imagine it would be cheaper on Christmas. It took me 5 days to get the graphics card from Newegg mainly because they ran out of it in stock. After they got some in stock, I immediately jumped on it and ordered it. So far, I have it charged onto my debit card but they haven't shipped it out to me yet. I hope they have some to send to me. __________________________________________________ Case - Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $59.99 ($40 Rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021 Motherboard - ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard $104.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131377 Graphics Card - SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card $164.99 (took 5 days to get) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102825 RAM - CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5 $85.99 (on sale) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184 Power Supply - Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX 12V 2.0 Power Supply $59.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153052 Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model $149.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115055 Internal Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAJS 320GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive $47.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136098 Disc Drive - Sony Optiarc 24X DVD/CD Rewritable Drive Black SATA Model AD-7240S-0B $35.94 [no link - I ordered from a site other than newegg] Okay, all of those added together is $709.87 and shipping comes out to be $757.43. trakaill Posted December 18, 2009 Content Count: 3736 Joined: 11/30/07 Status: Offline Share Posted December 18, 2009 Quality with computer parts is rarely directly connected to price, if anything some of the most respected and trustworthy parts are usually significantly less expensive than others. Corsair power supplies for example as basically tied for perfect ratings from everyone everywhere with PC Power and Cooling and a 750 watt psu (easily 150 watts over what any non-sli gaming comp will EVER use) is only $110. It's more knowing which names to buy than going by price. Since you're more intelligent than yeast and I haven't slept in too damn long thanks to finals week here's the sparknotes version, btw anandtech and tomshardware are good for benchmarks: Motherboards: Gigabyte or Asus Ram: Geil, mushkin, corsair, OCZ, gskill Psu: Corsair, PC Power and Cooling (they're both pretty cheap anyway so why go elsewhere yknow?) Graphics: XFX and EVGA the big two with lifetime warranties and 24/7 support plus overclocker friendly policies. GraphicsATI: ATI first party or Sapphire are good, otherwise look at the heatsink and warranty information. Soundcards: Some x-fi's are fakes without the real chip, check wikipedia for a list of the real hardware x-fi cards. Heatsinks: Noctuas are suprisingly good, Thermalright (especially the TRUE) is the next best bet. Anandtech ftw. Fans: Noctuas for dead silence at the cost of air, yate loons for a middleground, delta for "Screamers". Thermalpaste: Arctic silver, Ceramique, IC diamond, arctic cooling mx2 Bling: Heatsinks, fans, and lights/accessories are cheapest from SVC.com instead of newegg. CPU: Dependant on benchmarks and your budget. Cases: Antec's got some good ones, Cooler Master is kinda the de facto leader. Look for steel and 120mm fans. Peripherals: There's a reason the best warranty service is nicknamed a "Logitech lifetime warranty". Screens: I've pasted a link to the thread on different flatpanel panel tech a dozen times. IPS or MVA/PVA is better. Mousepads: Find an office depot and get a ~$10 "deskpad". Headphones: Audio Technica or Sennheiser, don't buy into the surround sound or "gaming" BS. trust science. Also it sounds ridiculous but if you get a less expensive case buy some fine grit sandpaper, cases without any rolled edges are like boxes full of razors. This is shoadows post in another thread! I feel its valuable info that would fit here..I dont like having 20 stickies so I felt this should be pasted in this thread or the "helpful links" one for future references Link to comment
XeNo Posted March 16, 2010 Content Count: 6466 Joined: 07/22/08 Status: Offline Share Posted March 16, 2010 http://www.digitalstormonline.com/ Just go there if you have money to burn. Most high-end and easy to build computer site I've found. You select the base type of computer you want, then you can downgrade somethings and upgrade others. You can save your selections and post them here if anyone feels like making some real high end/expensive computers to show to people. They also have options for a lot of subzero cooling systems that they install themselves, allows for hardcore overclocking and the works. They update their options as new cards/parts come out.
