Ultramarine Posted December 7, 2009 Content Count: 1082 Joined: 04/23/09 Status: Offline Share Posted December 7, 2009 Hmm, actually I just went to a good tech site and lo and behold: The 5750-5770 are only dollars apart with a decent boost in performance. The 5870 however costs $300ish and is on par with the gtx260 and even better a Radeon HD 4890, both of which cost only around $200. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5770,2446.html What's the big deal? ZOMG EYEFINITY GIVES ME 20 SCREENS TO MASTURBATE TO. If you REALLY want a 5000 class DX11 card, wait till Nvidia brings out theirs in a few months and then prices will drop. Ignore Regionals, his daddy is probably one of the wage slaves on the ATI's dev team. That site you linked showed that the 5770 is on par with a GTX 260, with the 5850 being ahead, and the 5870 wasn't even in the comparison. Seeing as how the 5770 is on par with a GTX 260, yet is 20-40 dollars cheaper, i'd know which one i'd rather buy. Here is a comparison from that same site, this time it has the 5970, 5870, 5850, a bunch of 4000 series cards, and the GTX 295's and 285s http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5970,2474-8.html the comparison there shows the HD 5000 series beating Nvidia's cards, specially at 1900x1200 or 2560x1600 resolutions. This comparison shows us: The HD 5870 is on par with a GTX 295, yet is roughly 100 dollars cheaper. The HD 5850 beats a GTX 285, yet is roughly 100 dollars cheaper. a HD 5970 runs circles around sli'd GTX 285s, yet would be 200 dollars cheaper then getting 2 GTX 285s. Link to comment

At the higher levels yes, I do agree a 5970 is a robust card. But the lower level 5750-70 really are inexcusable for their low performance and higher price than a 4870 for nearly the same price. Same goes for the 5800s, they're still hella expensive for their marginal performance gains. This is about DX11 cards being overpriced, not Radeon vs Nvidia. Wait for prices to lower a bit on them, that's all. Link to comment

The DX11 cards being over priced? if anything, i'd say Nvidia's cards are currently over priced if they are being beaten by cheaper DX11 cards from ATI. Why buy a DX10 GTX 260 when you can get a cheaper DX11 HD 5770 that is on par with it? Why buy a DX10 GTX 285 when you can get a Cheaper DX 11 HD 5850 that is on par with it? Why buy a DX10 GTX 295 when you can get a cheaper DX 11 HD 5870 that is on par with it? Why buy two GTX 285's SLI'd for 800-900 when you can buy a single HD 5970 for 600 that is greatly better? Nvidia is the one who needs to slash prices on their DX 10 cards. Link to comment

Nvidia is the one who needs to slash prices on their DX 10 cards. Once again, fanboy, this isn't a brand war, since you can make the EXACT same statements to the Radeon DX10 cards since they haven't started dropping in price compared to their 5000 series alternates. Nvidia will out of pride, or simply anticipation of their next DX11 series will NOT slash prices till Q1 when those cards roll out. THAT is why I keep saying wait-and-see till their ensuing price war engages, and you ultimately win. Otherwise, hold your tongue. I personally liked Radeon's 4000 pricing and that's why I went with one originally. I hate though that a 4870 puts out as much heat as a gtx 295. To be honest, I bought the 295 because it was the last upgrade I planned to make for a long time, and I was unaware there would be this large an upset in technology coming only a little over half a year later. Don't be fooled by the 5870 and the 4870, just because they have a "#870" in their name. They are only similar in name, beyond that, it's a revolutionary card with nothing in common. The 4870 and the 5770 are essentially on equal grounds except one can support 3 monitors, the other can't. So if you aren't into 3 monitor gaming, why not wait for the price crash to cash in on a cheaper DX10 card for essentially the same bang? Edited December 7, 2009 by PotshotPolka Link to comment

trakaill Posted December 8, 2009 Content Count: 3736 Joined: 11/30/07 Status: Offline Share Posted December 8, 2009 no.. you need 1 molex, which, as akaru's pic shows, can be at LEAST 2 pci-es chained together. Look at that picture again.... I have one of these also..its 2 molex to become one pcie!!! Link to comment

About time someone exclaim the truth. Do not listen to ReGIONALS. His dad probably sucks ATI's CEO's dick everyday. All that ReGIONALS can type is 5750. 5750575057505750575057505750575057505750575057505750575057505750575057505750575057505750575057505750575057505750575057505750575057505750575057505750 D: wow akura just wow 1.i never really suggest the 5750 unless its in that persons price range. 2.how would somebody sucking another persons dick make them want to promote the them want to promote the other persons product if anything the person getting their dick sucked would promote the suckers product. 3.are blowjob jokes the only thing you can think of. 4.i think ultramarine proves his point on the prices of dx11 card vs nvidias dx10 cards 5.you dont know as much about ati cards as i do because i keep up with them all the time thats why i suggest them to people. 6. if its not in there price range go with a fucking gts/gt 7.if the person is planning on spending a load of money they dont really need to let them go with a 5970 its dx11 and benchmarks show its the fastest card on the market. 8. yes i agree if you dont mind waiting a few months for your dx11 card wait for nvidia to bring gtx300 because they will be soooo much cheaper excluding the 5870 unless the manufacturers get there shit straight. /rant Edited December 8, 2009 by ReGIONALS Link to comment

Prices will drop across BOTH brands when the gtx300s come out, because they are designed for performance. ATI stepped out ahead for once instead of waiting to undermine Nvidia prices with a cheaper yet comparable card. The 300s from the things I've read WILL blow the 5000 models out of the water in performance, it's just a question of what the price will be. If it's high, chances are prices will stick, with the exception of dx10 cards which will drop in both brands. Now if the new Nvidia cards are not only going to perform faster than their Radeon counterparts and are priced at the same level then the Radeon cards will nosedive in price immediately. It's just a wait on the sticker tag. If I knew this kind of opportunity was coming and I was looking to upgrade I would definitely bide my time. I'd call it a rant but I have no loyalty to red or green or my head shoved two miles up Radeon's rectum for that matter. Link to comment
