Decesus Posted December 7, 2009 Content Count: 72 Joined: 03/27/08 Status: Offline Share Posted December 7, 2009 TL, DR: $600 -$700 is really not enough for a gaming machine, you should use $1300 - $1500 for a machine that's pretty good and upgradeable, or $2500 - $3000 for a top end machine (Without SLI or Crossfire). I have to be honest, but $600 - $700 isn't enought to build a gaming machine. I work at the higest rated tech place in SF (TechCollective, a shamless plug I know) , and I have people come through all the time needing a gaming machine built and plenty of them don't have more than what you have. For that price range, you'll be able to get a pretty mainstream desktop that will be able to play some games, but will probably need to be upgraded within a year or two. If you really want a gaming machine, your base price range should be $1300-$1500. For that price, you'll be able to buy a more high end machine. It won't be the best of the best, but the key is the ability to upgrade to new parts when they come out. Right now that means you'll need to get a Core i7 CPU with a socket 1366 motherboard, preferably Asus. That way in the future when you need to upgrade again, you don't have to swap out all the parts. In my opinion, you should just wait and save up a few more hundred dollars and get a machine that will last a lot longer than one put together with $600 - $700. Link to comment

Wow, your title isn't a lie. What classifies a gaming machine to you? An Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB of DDR2 RAM and a $100 graphics card? I don't think so. Link to comment

I know you can game on a $600-$700 PC, I can game on my laptop with a GeForce MX 440, 2GB of RAM and an Athlon 64 2200. 2fast wanted to spend $600 - $700 on a "gaming machine". If he wants, he can go to the build thread and pick a build from there. I was plainly giving my opinion that $600 - $700 isn't enough to build a "gaming machine" from scratch. From what I am reading, it seems like you want to upgrade your current computer. With 600-700 dollars, I would just build a whole new computer. I was able to build a Core i5 computer for 550 dollars after all the rebates and cashbacks. Link to comment
