What's the advantage and disadvantage of a higher dpi and vice-versa? I'm just wondering because I just ordered a Razer Deathadder mouse and is wondering if I should go at it's max at 3.5k (3500) dpi or stay around the 2k (2000 ) dpi. Link to comment
Wrathek Posted January 6, 2010 Content Count: 1839 Joined: 09/28/08 Status: Offline Share Posted January 6, 2010 dpi = the resolution of the mouse. it affects sensitivity and sensitivity alone. the higher it is, the less movement is required to move across the screen.its just a matter of getting used to the higher sensitivity. i just got a mouse that i run @ 5600 dpi Link to comment

A great mouse, and you can even adjust the sensitivity on it whenever you want. As Wrathek said, it just takes time getting used to it. I thought I was used to high sensitivity mouses...lol not anymore. Link to comment

Akaru Posted January 7, 2010 Content Count: 1000 Joined: 06/12/09 Status: Offline Share Posted January 7, 2010 I don't use anything over 1000 dpi. I've tried to get used to over 1000 dpi, but I just can't. I thought it would improve my surfing and b-hopping, but it makes me worst. But either way, 1000 or 2000, I lose because at 1000, I hit my keyboard and at 2000, I spin out when trying to b-hop or surf around corners. Link to comment

Shadowex3 Posted January 7, 2010 Content Count: 2959 Joined: 02/27/08 Status: Offline Share Posted January 7, 2010 DPI, windows sensitivity, and game sensitivity all interact in wierd ways. Now, assuming you turned "enhance pointer precision" in windows off and turned off acceleration everywhere else (including using the CPL mouse fix), here's how it works: Windows sensitivity is simple. Dead center in the slider settings will be 1:1, raising it makes your mouse pointer skips pixels to move faster but with less precision. This is the same way ingame sensitivity works, higher sensitivity actually means you start moving 2 pixels at a time or 4 pixels at a time. DPI is the mouse's internal scanning resolution. Higher DPI feels like higher sensitivity but unlike sensitivity you don't lose any precision. The ideal is always your highest DPI and 1:1 sensitivity with the lowest ingame sensitivity. ^^^ That is why you don't want acceleration or to use sensitivity rather than DPI to raise your speed. At 5700DPI I use a sensitivity of 1 ingame. 2 Link to comment
