Bob Loblaw Posted January 27, 2010 Content Count: 3697 Joined: 01/07/09 Status: Offline Share Posted January 27, 2010 if you have the money get an alienware m15x http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/alienware-m15x?c=us&l=en&s=dhs m11x its not on the market yet but should be soon and its priced at 1k even When I get rich I'm definitely getting an alienware. Super expensive, but hell they look nicer than tits. (Depends who's I guess)... Alienware are epic, but it was like 1500 for a standard alienware, or 1500 for a better Dell Studio 17. So I figured I would rather go with something that was a fair bit better but didn't look as nice.. Link to comment
Wrathek Posted January 27, 2010 Content Count: 1839 Joined: 09/28/08 Status: Offline Share Posted January 27, 2010 I'm excited about the facial recognition that will come with my dell. I think I would have preferred HPs counterpart the fingerprinting, but facial recognition sounds sweet too. And yeah I trust dell too. Always have liked dell more than hp, but I don't have a lot to say about hp, they just seem to add a ton of unnecessary crap to your machine. I trust dell's battery life MUCH more than HP's. So I'm pretty excited. I'll post about it when I actually get it a few weeks from now. Here I'll post the specs I got, you guys can tell me what you think: Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Quad Core Processor 1.6GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache) Security: 3 year mcafee for only 40 bucks LCD Display: 17.3” HD+ (900p) Bright LED Display with TrueLife™ and Camera/Facial Recognition SW Memory: 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz Hard Drive: 1TB (2 x 500GB) Dual SATA Hard Drive (7200rpm) Graphics Card: 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 Battery: 85 Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell) Bluetooth: Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Internal (2.1) I also got backlit keyboard. What d'you guys think? Hoping it is exactly what I need and more I think you smiling @ paying for 3 years of mcafee is disgusting. That shit is as worthless as if not more than norton/symantec. That shit is as worthless as if not more than norton/symantec. I don't like norton, and while I don't have mcaffee or norton on this computer and get along just fine, I know I don't NEED it, but for 40 bucks..... And you know a lot more about computers, but I like McAffee so until someone explains to me why I shouldn't like it, I will continue to like it Link to comment
Wrathek Posted January 27, 2010 Content Count: 1839 Joined: 09/28/08 Status: Offline Share Posted January 27, 2010 you shouldn't use it because it does NOTHING. i've seen way too many times here at work that symantec or mcafee do absolutely nothing to stop viruses. In fact, there's been a few times in the past month that a person's computer would crash every time shortly after boot because symantec would claim there was a virus (there wasn't) that was "tampering" with symantec's files, and would pop up these screens and then just become entirely unresponsive. If you want to pay for an antivirus get Nod32. If you don't, use malwarebyte's anti-malware, and if you like it enough, it has a paid license that enables a system protection of sorts. If I want to pay for it again I'll check out Nod32. Probably won't get one again because I've gone this long without one and it's been fine. Link to comment

I have an M15x that I bought for Christmas, and it is amazing. I've never owned a better laptop, hell it performs better than my $2,500 desktop. And overall it just looks freakin sexy lol. Bob Loblaw Posted January 28, 2010 Content Count: 3697 Joined: 01/07/09 Status: Offline Share Posted January 28, 2010 Yeah I was looking at it.. But for the same price I got this Dell Stupid 17 with a bigger screen, and better specs for cheaper.. Only thing is it doesn't look nearly as sexy... But coming from same manufacturers.... Should be about as reliable (maybe not quiteee because of the rep alienware has so it needs more attention but...) should be good. Link to comment
Akaru Posted January 29, 2010 Content Count: 1000 Joined: 06/12/09 Status: Offline Share Posted January 29, 2010 I think Alienwares are pieces of craps. You pay like 40% just for the name. I can make an equally good performing and looking computer for less than half the price. For a little more, I can do some custom case mods and make it look WAY sexier than any Alienwares. The performance to price ratio of Alienwares are just so low. I won't ever consider buying one. Link to comment
