I'm wondering if this is a power issue. A monitor will, even without a computer to plug it into, display a message telling you something's up and be able to bring up it's OSD (the monitor's built-in settings/options menu). Mine barly works and how i know that is because every now and the nothing will come up on my screen so i have restart my pc.
