Ive used it live many times, mic'd and not mic'd, and despite it being a lower-end kit, its not hard to get it sounding really good. ive got a mix of zildijian and sabian cymbals (blasphemy to some, i know ) i tend to like sabian high hats and chinas and zildijian crashes, splashes, and rides. id like to play in a thrash metal band one day, but im playing on and off with this 70-ish rock cover band. wishlist would include probably a higher end pearl set. I came really close to buying a 6 pc. Vision set last year but decided to put that money towards guitar gear instead. You see, I mainly play guitar now in the aforementioned band, so guitar stuff is really more important at the moment. Hope this thread goes somewhere. thanks for reading! Link to comment

Off brand cymbals... high hat and crash/ride. They sound really really bad. I guess i play rock the most, but i like any music. Only been playing for about 3 months... and i really would like some new heads, and cymbals. I'm not sure which kind of cymbals though... maybe paiste or zildijian... or sabian haha =p. I'm pretty sure all my drums are not tuned correctly, but i think they sound fairly ok... I can play pretty well, although i havent really gotten good at counting while i'm playing. Link to comment

Oh my fucking god I think I have that same exact set, I got it from my Uncle. Yeah the cymbals are so bad rofl, I got a Sabian medium crash w/ a boom stand and a sabian high hats, still have the shitty ride cymbal though. I want new heads and a double kick-pedal, but I just don't have the time to play or the money. Link to comment

I like the sound of sabian though, which is what you got apparently. Link to comment

ColdWar Posted January 29, 2010 Content Count: 283 Joined: 01/27/10 Status: Offline Share Posted January 29, 2010 yeah, the cymbals you get with percussion plus and other starter sets are worthless. they arent even fun to play on since they stay bent and then lose any resemblance of tone they might have had. honestly, beginner kits, despite being made of plywood or cheap basswood, you can get them sounding good if you take your time tuning them and replace your heads more than once a year. as for cymbals, the cheapest series' made by zildijian and sabian arent TOO bad, certainly a step up from percussion plus cymbals. i notice that i dont enjoy playing when my drums or cymbals sound like crap. so for those of you find yourself not having fun, maybe look into a zildijian ZBT or ZBT+ starter pack, or sabian B8, B8 PRO, or PRO starter. also, having more than 2 crashes of different sizes can add a little variety and keep you interested? i dunno, just some thoughts. August Posted January 30, 2010 Content Count: 237 Joined: 08/10/09 Status: Offline Share Posted January 30, 2010 DRUMMER HERE! been playing percussion for about 8 years, set for about 5, double bass set for less than 1. i went throught a style change from rock to more metalcore-ish stuff. I have a huntington beach double bass set (two seperate basses) with about 7 toms, but cut it down to one bass (with a double bass pedal) and 3 toms for gig/transportation purposes. I have Sabian cymbals, with meinl chinas and meinl bell. I'm in a band and we play music that is comparable to a day to remember or haste the day. BIGGEST INFLUENCES: Matt Greiner (August Burns Red) Adam Gray (Texas In July) Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) Link to comment
