TNT Posted February 13, 2010 Content Count: 441 Joined: 04/07/09 Status: Offline Share Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) Well, a friend asked me to build a gaming computer for as cheap as I could for him, so I managed to build this: Parts: CPU - $99.00 - AMD Athlon II X4 620 Quad Core MB - $54.99 - Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 RAM - $83.99 - Patriot 4GB DDR2/800 GPU - $184.99 - Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 HDD - $54.99 - Seagate 500GB Barracuda 7200 DVDR - $19.99 - Samsung SH-S223C Tower - $29.99 - Rosewill R220 PSU - $29.99 - Cooler Master R220 OS - $104.99 - Windows 7 32-Bit Total, this build cost about $650. Also, I would have made some different part selections, such as Nvidia instead of ATI, but that's what he wanted. Edited February 13, 2010 by TNT Link to comment

Your both wrong and potshot thinks resellerratings is a scam site so that shows how much he knows too. 32bit runs out of physical addresses around 4gb, programs can be made to recognize more than the 4th gig of ram if they're Large Address Aware. The reason you see 3.2-3.5gb of ram is because every bit of ram used by your videocard is mirrored by your system ram. So if your videocard has 2gb of onboard ram you'll lose 2gb of ram from your system. That's why videocards with more than 1gb of ram are so rare. Tell me are you the same guy that figures when his "Check Brakes" light is on instead of paying to repair his brakes he'll just ride around without a seatbelt and with the door unlocked so he can just jump out? Because that's the same level of life and property endangering stupid that using an off-brand power supply is. Why is it that people always listen about everything else EXCEPT the power supply? If this was FIRE instead of Electricity you'd listen, so why not listen now? If you can't afford a decent power supply you can't afford a computer. Just like if you can't afford working brakes you can't afford a car. 2 Edited February 14, 2010 by Shadowex3 Link to comment

Well you cant really put it like that, just cause he's wrong at one thing does not mean that he is at another. Plus, i was referring to the thread, not his build, meaning that there are other people than potshot who have posted their suggestions. 32bit runs out of physical addresses around 4gb, programs can be made to recognize more than the 4th gig of ram if they're Large Address Aware. If the gpu ram overrides the system ram wouldnt it be more optimal to have more gpu ram? seeing as theyre faster and all. Link to comment
Shadowex3 Posted February 14, 2010 Content Count: 2959 Joined: 02/27/08 Status: Offline Share Posted February 14, 2010 GPU ram is used exclusively for when the vidcard needs to shove textures or shaders or somesuch into RAM. System ram is used for EVERYTHING. It's kinda like saying you should have nothing but fuel lines and no gas tank because gas moves faster through fuel lines... Link to comment
