Okay, well, you can use HTML5, but you can't use h.264. Here's the problem; h.264 licensing costs a good amount, from what I've heard, it's like 5m$. yeah, well, whats h.264 mean for HTML5? HTML5 relies on two video codecs, h.264, and ogg vorbis. So what's the problem? Youtube might not use ogg. Meaning that Firefox can't use Youtube once HTML5 becomes mainstream, the only real browsers will be Safari, IE, and Chrome, why? Because they have monies. Google and Apple are also part of the MPEG-LA group that holds rights for H.264. Mozilla is too small of a company to afford getting h.264, even their president said that they cant afford it. There are only two things left for Firefox to hope; HTML5 isn't the shit, or that OGG comes to youtube. Now sure, youtube isnt everything, but it's certainly a lot, isn't it? I mean would you honestly use Firefox if you had to use out-dated software with it? It's sad, because this was the most subtle backstab by Google and Apple, the main supporters of HTML5. They're going to kill every small time browser out there. Now, will it happen soon? No, but it will happen without ogg support, or free h.264 rights (that will never happen). Really, without OGG on youtube, firefox is fucking fucked. Link to comment
