If you think Mozilla doesn't have the cash, you are sorely mistaken. He said that it's not about the money, they can easily afford it. Its on principle ALONE. They don't wanna pay for the license because the contract to stream video content over the internet for free to customers runs out in a couple of years, and its not looking like MPEG-LA will renew that contract either. They are doing it to promote a free internet as its always been, they are looking out for their users and everyone else. Apple supports H.264 because they are heavily invested in it. hell, h.264 is only widespread because there are already mass produced hardware decoders for it. They are just now working on an efficient one for OGG Theora. The 2 codecs are almost exactly the same as far as quality, except Vorbis is open source and free. Link to comment
