Try 1280x1024 on your current monitor if you can do that. 1920x1080 is a lot wider but barely higher resolution at all.

What you want is something that does 1920x1200. Same width but MUCH more vertical resolution than 1080P, you can watch a full 1080P movie on a 1920x1200 screen and still have room for subtitles that don't cover the action or editing tools or whathaveyou. You'll also get much better picture quality in games with the extra 200 lines.

Something else to consider is panel type. There's a MASSIVE difference in quality between a TN panel and an S-PVA panel. Read about the different panel types Here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1039222

Also a parting note, measurements of response time and contrast are non-standardized. Every manufacturer can do whatever absurd testing conditions they want to get great numbers, especially on the BS "Dynamic" contrast.

It should depend on your graphics card as well, you don't want to match a 1920x1080 screen with a 8800gt. Your FPS would be SHIT.

No, it wouldn't. I ran 3520x1200 (two monitors) on an 8800GT and did fine. And that was wit 16xAA.

I'm running my 8800GT on a Samsung 2343BWX. This monitor has an optimal resolution of 2048x1152. My FPS only goes to shit if I crank up AA all the way. I can usually get a solid 60 FPS on source games if I don't crank AA past 4x. At this resolution AA doesn't make much of a difference past 4x anyways.

I would suggest the monitor I have (2343BWX,) but it appears that it has been discontinued. What a shame.

CRT are the best for gaming cost wise. Sure you could get an LCD for the 120 Hz, but they are really exoensive. You can pick up a 19 inch CRT for less than 20 bucks and enjoy your 120FPS (visible) rather than the low amount from LCD (mainstream LCD, there are some exceptions)
