Dark Torcher Posted March 25, 2010 Content Count: 240 Joined: 05/28/08 Status: Offline Share Posted March 25, 2010 I have no experience with the 930 since I bought the 920 when they were only three i7s, and this build isn't now, it will probably be later around November when prices settle. As for tuning, this is all I got: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dmv=1207753 Though I changed to an EVGA X58 LE and a WD Raptor 300Gb in January. Besides, the advantages of the 980 is # of cores, not core speed since it's still Nehalem. Link to comment https://forums.steam-gamers.net/topic/29072-new-build/#findComment-356547
Shadowex3 Posted March 26, 2010 Content Count: 2959 Joined: 02/27/08 Status: Offline Share Posted March 26, 2010 An Extreme Edition USED to be the same processor but with an unlocked multiplier. In this case it's got 6 cores too. Which is going to do fuck all since while we have multicore support we dont have manycore support yet. trakaill Posted March 26, 2010 Content Count: 3736 Joined: 11/30/07 Status: Offline Share Posted March 26, 2010 did realize it was 6 core..so yeah its gonna destroy the i7 920 -30 on the bench but really for gaming and such there is no point...so why would you buy this if you already have an 920 except for saying you have one... again I can safely say that either you have money trees in your backyard... or you daddy is so rich you have an infinite trust fund Link to comment https://forums.steam-gamers.net/topic/29072-new-build/#findComment-356957
Dark Torcher Posted March 26, 2010 Content Count: 240 Joined: 05/28/08 Status: Offline Share Posted March 26, 2010 water it every other day to keep it healthy and green besides I already have parts, I can mix an Antec Quattro 1000W with my current Corsair 1000HX to meet requirements, I use Corsair DDR3 1600 now which overclocks well (though I don't know its limits since I'm not that adept with RAM overclocks, and as for GPUs, I would only buy two of the Fermi-class cards and reuse my old two GTX 280s. And I'm not buying this out of the blue, I've known the six-core processor would come out along with a skulltrail motherboard for it since 08 since it was released on their Nehalem lifechart so I've already saved up quite a bit. NV released new drivers yesterday it seems, I'll install those and maybe install Vantage again and do a more recent bench.
