KScorp Posted May 9, 2010 Content Count: 470 Joined: 04/04/10 Status: Offline Share Posted May 9, 2010 it was the regular steam then i tried beta then the same problem occured after about a week.... its not an issue of operating systems, i think its my account because im logging on from a laptop i just got in hawaii and it still dont work. i usaly play on my xp dell computer and now im on a sony vaio laptop runing vista. If I'm reading this correctly, you're saying that your friends list crashes on ANY computer? On the computers that your friends list does crash, can you get a friend to log in and tell us if it crashes for him as well? Are you running the same antivirus/firewall software on both computers? My first suggestion would normally be to reinstall steam. I somehow doubt it will fix your problem, but you should still reinstall and tell us if the problem persists. Link to comment

KScorp Posted May 9, 2010 Content Count: 470 Joined: 04/04/10 Status: Offline Share Posted May 9, 2010 Well, the only question I can think of which will lead us anywhere at this point is Do you have Battlefield BC2 installed on both computers? I searched for "overlay crash friends" and found 14 topic only made today seems like a big problem main reason(the thing they all have the same): Battlefield BC2. apperntly when you get an achievement there is a change in a text file which makes the overlay unstable 2 best fixes I pulled out of it: 1) Try to boot cs:s while steam is offline mode and go online when cs:s is running if it gives an error, close the game, start it in online mode and hope for the best 2) try deleting steam and only installing css, and no other games Honestly, if you don't have it installed, I don't know what to say. To have an odd problem occur on both computers, which have little in common, and have the problem occur on two individual accounts... You can search Google or the steam forums to see if anyone else has the same issue you're having (like crazy_tim has on your behalf), because I doubt this will have an easy solution. 1 Link to comment

It's much faster to go through solutions and try them out on your own computer than having others tell you what to do, since you'll have to report back and wait for a reply. Of course, if you found a solution to a problem via Google, but don't know how to execute it, we'll be glad to help. I'll post back if I find a possible solution. Link to comment

KScorp Posted May 10, 2010 Content Count: 470 Joined: 04/04/10 Status: Offline Share Posted May 10, 2010 Ok, I found that some people had this problem if they had too many friends/groups. How many do you have? If you have a very high amount (say over 100 or 150 or so), try deleting some. (The other user who had this problem had over 200 friends and 200 groups...) Link to comment
