Make sure you have at least like 1GB of free space on your drive. I know that a few days ago when I started steam it glitched. Badly. Even when I tried to reinstall it it glitched. See? Anyway, once I made sure I had at least a little free space, it worked fine. Link to comment

I had a somewhat similar issue... My friends list would not open in windows.. only opened ingame which PISSED me off!!! I tried everything I could to fix it and it didnt... I changed my hard drive for other reasons but on the new hard drive everything worked smoothly.. GL!! Link to comment
Wrathek Posted May 28, 2010 Content Count: 1839 Joined: 09/28/08 Status: Offline Share Posted May 28, 2010 did you try deleting the groups? over 300 groups definitely sounds like it could be an issue. if that doesnt work, right click and "delete local content" of EVERY game you have in steam, uninstall steam, restart, delete c:\program files\steam (if its still there), and then reinstall.
