Plus water cooling is quieter, so you will notice the reduction of sound eminating from your PC Link to comment
Shadowex3 Posted April 10, 2010 Content Count: 2959 Joined: 02/27/08 Status: Offline Share Posted April 10, 2010 A regular heatsink uses heatpipes to transfer heat from the bottom to the fins where a fan dissipates the heat into the air being blown through the fins. Watercooling uses water to transfer heat from a piece bolted to the CPU into the water and then cools the water down by running it through a heatsink (called a radiator) where a a fan or multiple fans blow air through the fins. Except for the extreme top end of both processors and watercooling equipment you're basically going to see the exact same performance as a $60-70ish heatsink since no matter what the temperature of the air blowing through the fins will be the same limiting factor. You cannot, under any circumstances, ever get below the temperature of the room that the heatsink is in. It doesn't sound like a big deal but when you live in Florida and it might be 80 degrees INSIDE because of a broken A/C unit... Link to comment
Wrathek Posted April 10, 2010 Content Count: 1839 Joined: 09/28/08 Status: Offline Share Posted April 10, 2010 of course you can get lower than the outside temperature, but not when you're trying to use water in a way like that that is actually manageable . i've seen setups in person of people so insane they actually use dry ice!! 黒人 Black Chick Posted April 11, 2010 Content Count: 43 Joined: 03/03/10 Status: Offline Share Posted April 11, 2010 Ive had a water cooled system before. It was pretty cool..but it does become a hassle when you need to change things out...seriously..if you get a new GPU..you need a new block...a new CPU..a new block. They have graphics cards that come with the blocks already on them...but they cost hella money. You can save your 1500 you were going to spend on a kit and just get a regular computer. I built a rig for 1700 and it runs just as cool as any watercooled system...just get a good heatsink! Link to comment

You can buy and use those relatively easy. If you want true madness there's people out there using Solid Oxygen. Think about the term "oxidizer" and how combustion works for a bit, you'll realise why it's insane. Link to comment
Dark Torcher Posted April 11, 2010 Content Count: 240 Joined: 05/28/08 Status: Offline Share Posted April 11, 2010 because it puts out fires so you won't be able to cook anything in your house for a while since pure oxygen makes it harder to start combustion Link to comment
