Same. I bought a like 15-20 dollar mic from Extra Foods (Grocery store with some other random things (like cheap mics:))) And I only ever use my headset for the mic, and let my sound go through speakers..

Works perfectly fine.. I don't really understand why people pay 60+ for something, unless they are truly hardcore, when 20 suffices (unless you have no extra speakers lying around anywhere).

 

Power supplies, brakes, immunizations, seatbelts, fire extinguishers and detectors and yeah my expensive headphones not only sound a lot better than yours but they'll last a damn sight longer too.

i use a simple 13 dollar mic and it works fine without problem.....got it from walmart....only problem is i jacked up the cord so now one speaker doesnt work very well lol

ya mine cost 20bucks at RadioShack, but during christmas they cost 10bucks so i bought 3 of them. I am on my third one :/

 

And Ill take on all three of you in a reg or gg server youll quickly understand the advantage of nice headphones

Currently I'm using Sony headphones with a cheap $13 Mic around my neck, gotta say I like this setup more than just the $13 mic. But all of this will change when I get a new pair of turtle beaches for my 360 and use those on the PC too.

Yeah. I suck at reg css.. I could beat you at mg and ze though I'm guessing.

Sound is one reason I suck at css.. Not the fact that my speakers don't put out good enough quality sound, but I've never learned to use sound to help my gameplay more than the very basic footsteps near, turn around technique.

 

I've tried, but I get too focused on sound, and get shot in the face because I'm not relying enough on sight, and once I see them it takes me too long to shoot because I was focused on listening.

 

As for shadow, maybe, but my first cheap headset lasted a couple solid years, and the only reason it broke is from transporting it, I snapped it because I put it in with a bunch of heavier things. Second one works fine, and I'm assuming it'll last just as long (a few years). As for my speakers, well I've had em a few years, and my brother had em a few years before me.

They might not be as good quality (or should I say they almost certainly aren't, nor is my mic as good quality (but I can't hear my own mic anyways so you guys have to suck that one up, not me -though it's good enough to not receive complaints or "I didn't understand that, say it again") but considering (at least so far) the only thing that has broken any of my equipment is not being careful and physically breaking it (admittedly not products fault), your headphones would be susceptible to the very same thing.

 

I do realize I am partially biased though, as I've never given great quality headphones/mic a chance. And it could very well be one of those things that once you're accustomed to it, you can never go back (like I am with headphones, the ones I have have the rubber thing to trap sound, and I could never go back to low quality ipod headphones). But until I see a need for it, I'll stick with speakers/cheap mic.

Now you guys going to listen when I say in every freakin thread about headsets or microphones to avoid things that are gimmicky or "gamer" branded somehow?

 

If you can buy a new headset. I recommend steelseries very highly.

But seriously Steelseries is shit, and that's not an "in my opinion I hate them" shit but a "their scientifically measurable attributes are terrible" shit. Kinda like how there's a difference between saying a car is shit because you don't like it and a car is shit because it's a freakin yugo that gets 10 miles to the gallon and breaks down every 5 miles.
