What I was getting at is that you can use a remote desktop app to connect to your desktop, especially if you are on campus or with a good internet connection.

Here are some other suggestion:

That can play L4D playable at low-mid and CSS high playable. Best one IMO, especially because of the i3 330M, faster than the other processors in this price range.

benchmarks of the GPU

Apparently that Sony isn't so great at running games (I have a PC to run games any) plus the fact it isn't quite as portable as the HP. I'm not looking for a gaming laptop, I'm looking for something that's fast, portable, great/good battery life and has a good screen.

The HP seems pretty good for all these points and it isn't as expensive as the Sony...

But that fist HP is running a 1.2GHz processor, that Sony is using a 2.13 core i3.

I checked around online and they said that the i3 is better than the other processors that are in your price range.

In the long run, that HP will not be to great. I remember running a 1.6GHz cpu and wanting more. Also, that HP doesn't have a dvd drive, so you might need to factor that into the price (about $50)

I suggest to just go with the sony, you said up to 500 if it is worth it, well imo, it is worth it, it will last longer, and give a lot better performance with pretty much everything. Boot time, load time for applications, they will all be quicker.

Another option is to just get a netbook, I have one and it is perfect for school work.

You're only going to get fucktards posting in OTF anyway..

As said netbooks nowadays are getting very powerful and are great in my opinion. Where I work we have to lug about quite hefty laptops to customer sites which is hassle to most of us. A few of the engineers have started buying netbooks and I'm actually pretty tempted myself to invest in one.

You say you have your desktop to play games with and that this is just for uni work and general computer use (browsing, etc)

A quick look on a UK-FRIENDLY SITE WHICH SHIPS TO THE UK WHICH HE NEEDS BECAUSE HE'S FROM THE UK

You've even got a built in webcam to take pictures of yourself, you vain fuck.

Just kidding :)

Play.com does though.....

As I was saying earlier, get a netbook, and for an extrmely heavy apps run it off of your desktop through remote desktop. For everything else, IM, email, youtube, documents, it is great. Hell, some can even play games.

If the Sony was a bit smaller and lighter then yeah, I would probably go for it but it seems rather bulky.

As for netbooks, I've been having difficulty to even find one in my price range that is quite fast.

Double post bump, new laptop I found:

That asus looks pretty nice. I would probably get it as it seems to be a good deal. I've had good luck with asus stuff BTW, I'm typing this on my ASUS laptop right now never had a problem with it. Unlike the HP and Dells which I've had that died rather quickly. The one thing with the ASUS you might want to look into is that gpu, I'm not really familiar with it but if its like every other intel gpu (gma w/e) I've dealt with it will probably suck. So if your really serious bout playing some games on you laptop that toshiba would probably be better, plus the toshiba has a bigger hard drive.
