the cd player, the sega game gear was probably the big game changer as far as electronics in the early 90's that was a full color back lit lcd screen that could play for hours on. took like 8 batteries to run it though.

the Pentium 2 processor was a game changer as well

the rise of AOL , and netscape browser bringing html and the web into the home.

highspeed online gaming *for the time) the first mmorpgs, the first mmofps's (quake doom, tribes) the pc game industries took off with the rise of the voodoo graphics cards. nvidia and ATI started becoming houshold names as well. projection screen tv's, multifunction remote controls,

the home PC market really took off then with the rise of GUI interface windows 3.1 then 95 then 98, mac os in color ibm had os2, as sub 1000 dollar pc's became available to the home user that were powerful enough to rival business systems.

go look up 90's tech on the history channel and go from there.

Jager's on it. Gaming is directly responsible for the rise of modern technology and it's ubiquity. Virtually ever major advance in technology we have today was driven by and marketed directly to gamers at first.
