trakaill Posted May 30, 2010 Content Count: 3736 Joined: 11/30/07 Status: Offline Share Posted May 30, 2010 (edited) If you're still here Tink, what do you think of an i5-750, ATI 5850, in a HAF 922 case, P55 mobo and a 750w corsair ps? Great build! Prolly the most for the money imo!!! Do it if you can! Toxing that thing will have a shit PSU and half crap hdd etc..I dont know why you dont build what I sent you before... its easy as hell!! and a much better case at that!! Just remember with computer you rarely get a "deal" so to speak you most often end up getting what you pay for... Newegg once in a while will have a real deal but its still on individual components.. My PSU went down from 100 to 69 AMIR but its was for a day! dont buy this thing!! You can buy a cheaper more reliable PSU than whats gonna be in that for the same money! And whratek still has his sweet deal on Wndows7 as far as I know so I dont know why your worried!!! Edited May 30, 2010 by trakaill Link to comment

Which you'll promptly ignore and go buy a half-assed off brand exploding power supply and shittastic nvidia motherboard anyway just cause its XTRRRRRRRRREEEEEEM. 1 Link to comment

Actually Im interested to see where your coming from with the "shitty nVidia board" because they get good reviews and more people are using them..some of these people are very good with computers.. I know gigabyte and asus have led the market along with msi but it seems nvidia is cracking down with their which are esthetically WAAAYYYY more attractive!!! EDIT I posted this thinking of EVGA board is that what you were referring to?? @TOXIN your build is good. I would go with an ATI card if I were you or a fermi...260 is old technology by now.. dx11 and eyefinity is the new shit!! EVGA boad is good imo some people have mixed opinions the i7 930 is a great CPU obviously but I think I would sacrfice its greatness and get an i5 750 and invest more in the GPU!!!! or SSD You PSU is good but I still prefer Corsair for one the name, for two they are much nicer looking!!! It counts when you have a window!!! the antec 300 might tight but is a nice case!!! for the HDD Id go with the WD caviar black 640GB it really has excellent reviews!! Shadowex3 Posted May 30, 2010 Content Count: 2959 Joined: 02/27/08 Status: Offline Share Posted May 30, 2010 All of the above. Nvidia, EVGA, et al still use shitty electrolytic caps and low-phase power designs. Good ratings doesn't mean anything most of the time. People will rate an Ultra brand power supply (known for catching fire and exploding) highly just because it's got lights. Plus... dont waste $22 on a cooler like that. Either get a TRUE or something and be done with it or stick with stock. Oh and for $230 its stupid to buy a 5830 when it's performance is virtually identical to the $100 cheaper HD 5770. Where can I read this for myself... and if that is true Gigabite and asus (especially gigabite) needs to start making good looking boards cause that blue, green and yellow shit doesnt cut it anymore!! they are ugly as fuck!! And yeah the cooler I thoughts so too...tbh you dont need one the i core series runs quite cool stock! and for the card idc what he chooses as long as its a 57** or 58** series nvidia (lower power and lower temp is better for his project than a fermi would be) Link to comment
Jager Posted May 31, 2010 Content Count: 1300 Joined: 06/24/07 Status: Offline Share Posted May 31, 2010 sorry gonna have to weigh in here a bit and say that the motherboard design is highly dependent on the price. evga generally makes some of the highest preforming motherboards out there, but you pay for that quality with a massive sticker shock price tag. also since components like solid state capacitors and vram chips are all NOT created equally, there have been shortages . whether they are price fixing again like they did so many times before is unknown, but low numbers of high preforming parts = big price increases. its why ddr3 ram and top end motherboards are very expensive compared to the comparable ddr2 stuff once they broke the price fixing scheme. as for the various differences in the core i3-i7, the chips themselves besides larger cache and faster speeds, also have better binned cpus (an i7 that under preforms may become an i5 with the bad area locked off) similar to the amd xII and x3 processors that all started as 4 cores but had some disabled or slowed down due to not passing QC. Its called lower binning. the higher level of the i sxeries supports more fuctions ie the x58 motherboards with the i7 9 series support sli/CF with both cards at 16x. and require matched sticks of memory (generally ddr3) and best performance is seen with 3 sticks in triple channel. the i7 8 and lower use a different socket and support 1 PCIE card with full 16x speeds, they may run similar speeds but are more mainsteam processors and combinations to reduce sticker shock (I7-9 x58 motherboards are generally 250-350 for an enthusiast board) the I7-8 series are fine processors, especially for gaming, but they are cheaper with less enthusiast stuff included to make it easier for the market to handle. i5 was aimed at the office or basic gaming people who dont need any bells and whistles and the i3 is for people who just need a pc to do email internt and such. while the i3 is positioned as a very good mobile processor and laptop, it is not a gaming processer.
