For most games the i5 is better than the i7, yes. But for games that use more than 2 cores, the i7 will be stronger. To my knowledge there are only very few games that actually use more than 2 cores though.

It's a dual core. You can make it a virtual quad though with hyperthreading. If you do that though it will essentially cut the core speeds in half.
