Suggestions for my new map!

I started working on this map a few weeks ago, and just recently starting adding to it again. It is one of my first maps, so I'm learning as I go along.

 

So far I have the following done:

 

Armory (attached to the ceiling, has a monitor for watching prisoners in isolation).

Catwalks (attached to the armory and has ladders down to the floor).

Medic (heals at a rate of 10 HP per second).

Cells (Each have a toilet, bed, and light + possible extra "goodies" :madgrin:).

Isolation (monitored by a destroyable security camera).

Pool (the dimensions of an Olympic swimming pool, and has a drivable boat in it).

Big Cage (nothing exciting going on in there).

 

 

These are "done" in the sense that they are working, but they'll probably change drastically by the final release.

 

I plan on adding the following:

 

Execution chambers

Yard

Disco

Shot for Shot room

Grenade duel room

Soccer

just taking a quick look at your screen shots the one thing that stands out to me is the lack of original texturing. Spice it up a bit, everything is gray and dingy looking make it look nicer, i know your in the beginning but really good maps have really good texturing.

 

When i learned mapping i decompiled a bunch of maps i loved and looked at the geometry that they created to texture walls to make them more eye popping. That new version of razor is an example. Although that map is completely T sided and broken the textures make all that not matter in a way.

 

As for areas that need work, dont just make the pool a huge body of water, put cubemaps on the water and use a good water texture, avoid any of the dx7 waters they look like crap. Put things in the pool area, like a locker room, showers, sauna, jacuzzi, etc etc. That way the CTs can give specific orders.

 

Finally dont fill your map with a million teleporters. and dont make it ez mode to get into the armory. Nothing i hate more than T sided maps. Make secrets hard to find/get/do and possibly life threatening.

Just a few notes......medic seems to be a little to small......when 14 t's are crammed in there it may be a problem......also pool.....while cool there is a boat....could either a. be used as a tk device b. would be so intresting to the T's pool may be to hard to control for cts and c. is wayyyyyyyy to big no way in hell could a few cts control that.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, they help a lot and I'll be putting them all to use. And I honestly don't mind if you're blunt, it just helps me to improve the map. So by all means, don't hold back.

 

Texturing and all that I plan on improving as I go along, and I will also change medic and the other things suggested. My biggest problem is that my map basically is a Razor copy, which was pointed out and I need help getting around that. What I'm thinking now is I'll restructure the map so it has a different layout than Razor, but still keep some of the "standard" sections of Jailbreak maps such as pool - but try to make them different and interesting.

it looks pretty good to me but like others said there is too much gray and the pool might be alil to big. and yes it does look like razor

Alright, here's my new to-do list:

 

Restructure the map completely to be different from Razor (I've been studying diagrams of actual prisons).

 

Spice up the texturing / lighting.

 

Re-do all areas of the map except for cells / isolation and make them better (make medic larger, pool smaller + add features et cetera).

 

And make it relatively difficult to rebel (I'm aiming for a realistic approach).

 

Also: I'll assure that the boat cannot be used as a TK device.
