I didn't know where to put this. Its kinda technical i guess lol.

 

I went to dl a prefab and didnt know what to open the file with. So I opened it with hl2 and now all of the prefabs i dl are auto hl2 based. I have no idea how to fix this and if i cant then I have to make my own letters which is the prefab I dled.

If its vmf, you open it in hammer.

Well, what I did was select "Open With" and it just has basic things such as hl2.exe files or notepad files etc.. I can't open it with hammer. Ik now what I have to do but I can't get the files back into being a vmf. As soon as I dl them they turn into hl2 files and are unreadable.

Just because it auto opens with hl2 doesn't mean the extension should be changed.

 

It should still be a .vmf, your computer should just be trying to open it with hl2. (which shouldn't be an issue, just go into hammer and manually open the .vmf)

 

You should be able to right click it and set the "Default program to open with" as hammer if you want.

 

It really should still be a .vmf. If not; tell me what extension it is now.

Can't you just go into hammer and open it there?

to change the default propram that it opens with,

 

right click on the file--> open with--> browse--> select program--> tick "set default program"
