I always tell people "we're all adults now" when they ask questions like "do I HAVE to do this," but it sure doesn't feel like it with the rules some places have. Congrats on being almost there at least! Link to comment
LegalSmash Posted April 4, 2008 Content Count: 2936 Joined: 02/04/08 Status: Offline Share Posted April 4, 2008 (edited) So you understand, let me explain the festivities: I have to muster @ 7 AM at the law school on the Saturday after graduation, to get a fucking lecture of proper behavior at a graduation (ive been through 2 already, I think I know wtf Im doing and what not to do), THEN they want us to sit through someone reading from the Koran, Bible, and Talmud (because we are just that religious at the school) then take a busride to the law school (because we are apparently not old enough to make it there ourselves), and sit for 2 hours while they prepare procession, in the seats, which are those little black fold ins, shoulder to shoulder in full length doctoral robes (thats wool people). (9 am, May Washington DC through about 1 pm outdoors), graduation for undergrad starts at that point and for 2 hours I have to listen to some blowhard and watch the professors in their turkey outfits, and listen to all 3500 undergrads called out. AFTER 2-3 hours I get to go to my own law school graduation (thank god) in an air conditioned auditorium, which will take as long, because we have hoods and whatnot to put on. After everybody and their brother speaks, we MAYBE will be released about 5-6 pm. Throughout the time, I cant use cellphone, etc. to tell the folks what is going on, and they are only allowed tickets to the law school thing. Their whole reason? Last year, the law students and med students decided to go to their own graduation, but not attend the undergrad one (mind you, they are not to be at ours). I just feel like I would rather have the graduation with my peers/colleagues that I suffered through this 3 year hell with, and be with relatives that want to see the first lawyer in the immediate family graduate rather than being subjected to a secondary, unnecessary event that will not actually include the law students in any meaningful way. I'm bitter because I'd rather see my relatives than sit through 3500 people's names who i dont know, my relatives, who are only going to be there for about 35 hours, AND I have to miss my little goddaughter's communion (some shithead fucked up scheduling in the important family events category). Suck it up dude. I'm sure that with 3500 people there's more than one "important family event" on the calendar that occurs well over once each day of the year. Meeting everyone's needs would be impossible? Plus, you think you've got it bad. The audience will have 3,501 meaningless names to sit through. Link to comment
phatman76 Posted April 4, 2008 Content Count: 602 Joined: 01/21/08 Status: Offline Share Posted April 4, 2008 interesting you have to sit through the undergrads. When my brother graduated from UCLA, he skipped the big graduation (full football stadium) and my family and I just went to his departmental graduation (couple hundred econ majors in the basketball stadium) much more fun and less hot... Do you not get that he has to sit through a ceremony which is entirely meaningless to EVERYONE in grad school unless they happen to know an undergrad who's going to be graduating? It's like a math teacher making everyone stay after class to watch a school play. Edited April 4, 2008 by Captain Colon Link to comment
